Magic the Gathering: What Color Are You?
Counterspell: 2 blue mana.
Interrupt
Counter target spell.
Basically a be-all-end-all anti-weapon, it's capable of countering almost everything from summons to instants to sorcery. Very powerful, certainly one of Blue's best cards in my opinion.
However, though I've never played Magic: The Gathering seriously or gotten in touch with other players, I do think running multiple colours in a deck is detrimental. A blue deck should probably make use of Counterspell, but otherwise it isn't worth tagging in some Islands and 4x Counterspells.

I'm a hypocrite because I suggested that all life is sacred and should not be wasted without good reason.
There are decks that run multiple colors, even five. And most of it are effective. My last deck was UB Control. Ofcourse, there's blue for counterspells and draw engine and black for creature removals. And it works fine, especially versus other control decks.
I don't think being mana screwed would be a problem for multiple colored decks. There cards that let you search for lands or produce mana. And also there are land cards that produce two or more colors.
But sometimes, its all luck! I also admit that monocolored decks have less chance of being mana screwed compared with Multicolored decks.

I don't actually put time into buying, and creating decks, though. I just use decks that friends have made. Most of them have extra decks to use.

@William: That's a good strategy.
@Vlad: Oh I know. Hence, why most people used to run ?/blue type decks (the ? can be filled in with any other color, or no color ), back then.
For that matter, I suppose it's still being run...counterspells can be game-breaking.
Frankly, that's why I HATE blue...everyone and their mother uses it.
I prefer green and white myself...not that I've ever played competitively...and my actual experience is about 20 games...

I turned out White, and it just so happens White is what I've been playing since I started playing Magic two months ago.
And I confirm getting my ass kicked miserably by TT with an Elves deck I lent him the first time we played. Elves should be castrated, I say!

If you don't spay and/or neuter your Elves soon enough their numbers will be out of control. And then you'll have elvish infestations all over the place.

Not surprisingly - blue:
Though I'm surprised to have red & green as enemies. I actually have a bit of each color except black.

Sure, we're certainly gonna believe someone blue that he has no black in him.
Green and Red are all about emotions(red)/instinct(green), something blue is too rational to allow.
And of course any actually sentient and sapient creature would have characteristics from all the colours, the idea is that one is dominant over the others.
