Hey everyone, new to the forums, question about IV

Unread postby The Mad Dragon » 06 Nov 2006, 22:52

Now, I have played a little bit of 4, but haven't really gotten into it and have actually started III back up, with the hopes of finishing it.

My question is for about IV. What exactly was it a blunder?

I wouldn't really call Heroes IV a blunder. It was actually a pretty good game (once patched), but was hampered by a rather pathetic AI. Fortunately there are some very skilled map makers out there making custom maps that give a decent challenge despite the AI.

Initially it also took quite some time for me to get used to Heroes IV, because it is quite different from H2 and H3. Now I would rank it on par with H3.

The fact that when it came out it was so bugged that i had to play without music on and even then it would crash after 30 min. And they never did balance heroes-in-combat properly.

I think you will find that if you download the mod Equilibris, playing Heroes IV will become quite an enjoyable experience. :)

Ah!Another dragon!

I kid.Wellcome to the forums.

You see,the problem with HIV is that it wasnt properly balanced and the AI is nonexistant. However,if you check out the equilibris mod mentioned above and a few user made maps(from the top of my had:draconic, wind of thorns, around the calendar, resolution, saga of depieleres)you may be plesantly suprised.

Yes, go here to find the best maps and campaigns available for H4. If you have any other general questions, you could also check out our FAQs.

I think not, I really enjoyed H4, it was simply different by some rather major points to the early editions in the series, but it definately has some redeeming features

yes, Homm4 can have some lame AI....But I have a couple of maps where the AI is a total Bitch...

Just look up, Overlord's Deathmatch, or Run to the Hills....

P.S. Overlord's has been updated..
Heroes 4 uses the combination technique: AKA: Chaos with Nature, Life with Order, Death and Might are neutral.

If he had problems finishing the first map of first campaign, then weak AI was probably least of his problems. I suggest taking low difficulty level and get to know the game - strengths and weaknesses of different creatures and strategy for playing with them.

Then you simply need a little bit of training, especially since some concepts of the game have changed from previous titles, e.g. the battlefield is very much different, there is Line of Sight (LoS) - a wholly new concept; you must make choices as to which level 2/3/4 dwelling you will build, etc...

You may find that you are put off by the different feel of the game at first, but believe me, if you persist, you will be greatly rewarded.

Why not give the tutorial a go and then just start the first campaign? I think it's much more enjoyable to learn that way, especially since you already know the basics from previous games, and you simply need to adapt to a few new things as you go along.

I didn't know about the tutorial either...

Anyway, just remember to get Combat skills (Combat, Melee, Archery, Resistance) whenever possible and go play the first campaign :-)
