LotA Book 3 Back on Track

Unread postby Angelspit » 06 Sep 2008, 12:43

<img src="/http://img187.imageshack.us/img187/7382 ... hz9.th.jpg" align=right vspace=10 hspace=10>At the Round Table, my good friend Marzhin posts <a href="/viewtopic.php?p=242263#242263">an update on the third book of the Legends of the Ancients campaign</a>. He is now working with Corlagon, who is involved in mapmaking and writing.

<i>"Ruthless yet compassionate, Sven Forkbeard has literally been to death and back, having led the united Chedian armies against the Beldonian Hordes a few years past. His rulership of Thjorgard renders him one of Rysh's most powerful men alive, matched only by the power-hungry conquerers of the continent's west - tyrants this worldly Jarl comprehends only too well."</i>

Check out the <a href="/viewtopic.php?t=4303&start=75">work-in-progress teaser images</a> in the thread.

Are any of the LotA chapters available for TotE?

Yes, as far as I know this one is for TotE.
No matter how powerful one becomes, there is always someone stronger. That's why I'm in a constant pursuit of power, so I can be prepared when an enemy tries to take advantage of me.

Books 3 and 4 will be for TotE :) I have no plans to try to adapt Book 1 and 2 to TotEbefore Books 3 and 4 are completed.

Great news.
I got curious about one thing. Although I played only the 1st book, I didn't understood why were there lvlup limitings if you didn't played with those heroes anymore? Or will those heroes come back in the next books?

I'm assuming you can...since you can play the original & HoF scenarios and campaigns under TotE too.

EDIT: I've just tested it and unfortunately you can't. :(

Since many people seem interested in playing Books 1 & 2 with TotE, I'm working on it right now. I'll post this version in a couple of hours. Stay tuned :)

Oh. I presume because somehow it acts like a mod. Not entirely, but it was written for that game's data. :) Good to know though.

That's great news Marzhin... It seems you restored my respect in the French. :)

Wow, thanks Marzhin. Now I feel guilty for making you do all this extra work. :x

Thank ye muchly. :)

One thing though: The rar file for download is ~45 megabytes large, whereas the single .h5m file within is ~7 megabytes. What gives?

Don't forget LotA includes alternative audio tracks from the old Might and Magic games...

Umm...how does that answer my question? To rephrase: How can a packed file be larger than its contents?

Does this new file contain only the bare necessities for LotA and we should still copy the rest (like the music) from the old HoF-compatible LotA?

Well, the answer is that the alternative music tracks occupy a lot of the space :)

Also, don't forget that each map is a little heavy too. There is more than just a .h5m file in the archive - check those other folders :hoo:

I have only the one .h5u file inside the archive. No readme, no music files, no nothing...else.

Because the packed file contains all you need for Lota, that is : the mod itself, the maps, and the music. I made it this way for the people who actually never downloaded LotA before and are discovering it with this version. This way, they have all they need in one download and are not forced to search for other files in other releases.

That's very strange. If you downloaded the right file (and you did if it's as big as you say) then all the extras should be there. Besides, you can't play the campaign if the maps aren't included.

Well, I just downloaded the same file, it just added the "(2)" to it since it's in the same folder as the other one. Comparing them back to back, the first one has just the one file, the second has everything.

Odd indeed. :|
