Heroes VI Soundtrack Complete

Unread postby Angelspit » 23 Feb 2011, 12:13

Paul Romero posted some very interesting news on the <a href="/http://www.facebook.com/permalink.php?s ... 477">Might and Magic Facebook page</a> on Monday:

<blockquote><i>"Soundtrack for VI is completed and is very melodic and exotique! Cant wait to see how the music, graphics, characters and gameplay all mesh as one!"</i></blockquote>

It's only one building block on the whole foundation, but a very important piece as you will certainly agree.

That's a good bit of news right there, hopefully this time around the soundtrack will come close to matching the greatness of some previous ones (2 and 4).

Sorry, dont agree. If I buy this game, like every game I've played before, the first thing I will be doing is turning the annoying, pointless music off.

Surely I cant be the only one???

I usually play the music at first, then turn it off. Disciples 2 and some others were good enough that I left it on.

I'm pretty sure you are. Music is an important part of any game and it changes depending on the action (usually), so it creates an atmosphere you can relate to or prepare for. Or create suspense. Either way it greatly enhances the atmosphere.

I hope he did a better job than last time. Same track rehashed 10 times = no good.

Last time they tried the "cinematic soundtrack" approach. But it didn't quite work. It works well for a movie, because you only see it once. Or if you see it again, it's linear. Some of the pieces were good but most of the time they were trying to be H2, not actually being.

Using Shyranis' youtube account to listen to the town themes is very painfully obvious that H5's music in quite inferior when it comes to eliciting player emotion compared to the previous efforts...

The H2 soundtrack was one of the best I've ever heard. It set a high mark indeed.

I like H4's best, but that might be because of the sea theme (which uses chords that are a few hundred years old it seems and you can find in other games too).

H2's soundtrack too used bits and pieces from real pieces of music, mostly from the classic era of scholar music.

Same with MM6 music etc. That's pretty much what Paul Romero does.

Of course this isn't to say he doesn't do a great job. And I don't think he ever disclaimed this fact (unlike, Horner, for example. See The Land Before Time and Braveheart).

For those who missed it, the piano solo theme of haven's town.

Obviously it isn't the full version but you can tell the piano has a prominent role in it.

I like it, but I'll reserve judgment until I hear the full thing.
