Star Wreck - In the Pirkinning

Unread postby Kalah » 22 Jan 2006, 21:29

This is a great Finnish sci-fi parody, just displayed at the Tromsø International Film Festival. It had the audience rolling in the aisles - I highly recommend it to anyone who has ever seen the Star Trek or the Babylon 5 series.

It was made on a budget of only 15.000 Euros, and yet the effects are marvellous. The producers have made the entire film available for free download off their website - here:

:-D :-D :-D
Watched it - surprisingly good. Bruce Boxleitner's gotta hate this :) It was a bit of a shock to go from the starship scenes, which were as good as anything from ST:TNG, back to the live-action shots, where the budget limit really shows. Suddenly brings it home just how powerful home computers have become.

Yeah, according to the producer, most of the shooting was actually done in his living room. They had this small blue-screen, and that was it, really.

That's actually the second most watched finnish movie ever, right after the Unknown Soldier. This movie is really, really fun. I recommend it.

Oh, I feel so patriotic.

Great special effects. To bad i don't know the language. It was funny anyway, though.

Well, I don't understand Finnish either, but at least it has English subtitles - and many things (such as names) are understandable.

That really is.

I like this film, the scenes with Putin and matcho fights in BabylonV are nice. The excellent one is also Captain Vodka. Here are any other free film competitors?

Oh, come on - don't tell me you didn't like it... I mean, look at the names alone: Captain Pirk, Fukov (pronounced fukkoff), Dwarf, Info... And then the ship - called "Kickstart"...? :-D

They spent seven years completing this thing - pretty much on their spare time, I guess.

So his name is Vodka Fukov then...

And I think the Russian president wasn't Putin, as someone said; I believe he was called Uljanov.

Ah, yes, this is a great movie. I didn't know it was Finnish though. Judging by the red/black eagle flag they used all the time, i kept thinking it was Albania for some reason.

The next time I'll go see an american movie, I'll come to this board and claim I thought it was from Mongolia. Just to annoy you like you did me.

Sorry, I just had to relieve some pressure. Don't take it personally.
