Whoa!

Unread postby Joetheeskimo » 23 Aug 2006, 22:49

A few weeks ago, while playing Heroes III: Armageddon's Blade (I now have H3 Complete), I encountered a surprise within the game.

You know the 'Pyramid' object? Your hero battles around 70 guardians (presumably golems), and when the guardians are defeated, you learn a spell. I visited a Pyramid, and learned the following spell:

Click for Picture

"Fear ( disabled )"?? Apparently, this was a spell that was going to be added to the game, but was disabled in the end, but not before its picture was designed.

I excitedly checked my spell book, but was disappointed when I found it wasn't there.

The Azure Dragon's description is simply, 'Fear.' and when your troops are attacked by an Azure Dragon, often they will freeze with fear, signaled by a picture of a skeleton opening its mouth and hissing. Presumably, this is what the spell 'Fear' was supposed to look like when cast in combat.

Anyway, I found this interesting. Has anyone else encountered this?

Haven't encountered it myself, as far as I recall.

My wife claims she has encountered it once. She thinks it was a bug in unpatched Armageddons Blade expansion.

pyramides are so pointless places, so the greatest thing about going there is finding this bug.

They're simply Spell Scrolls with guardians. What's so pointless about that?

I think a free lvl 5 spell is rather good. Of course the value depends a great deal on which spell you are granted and wether you have expert wisdom on your hero.

@vhilhu: you are correct - there's no scroll. Upon defeating the guardians, the victorious hero - and only him - is granted a random level 5 spell, not previously known to him.

Hehe :D Good one.

..Oh wait, you weren't making a joke??

A spell scroll is an artifact that gives you a spell when you collect it.

The FEAR spell was created for the Azure Dragon. When it appears in a pyramid it is unusable by the Hero who gets it, and is a bug or poor programming / mapmaking.

Actually, I don't think you can edit the contents of a Pyramid, so mapmaking doesn't come into it.

I always found pyramids useful to either get a level 5 spell that I may not have available in a guild (esp DD or Fly), or at least the xp if trying to level up. Not a lot of point though if you don't have expert Wisdom (I think it's Wisdom anyway - able to learn 5th level? How quickly we forget!)
We will either find a way, or we will make one. Emperor Hannibal.
