Oooh. Nice to see them churning out new material.
The moats around the cities look interesting. The hero portraits look realistic, which isn't necessarily a good thing because I liked the stylized portraits in I and II. Seeing normal-looking people is usually something I like to avoid in fantasy games. But ah, well, that's not really significant.
The hero items... I'm slightly surprised at the choice to include every single piece, such as vambraces and trousers and all, as items, but oh well it might prove quire refreshing after the prodigious lack of items we've seen before. I just hope sorting through all those with a large number of heroes won't become too much of a chore lategame. Although if it means that items will show up on the hero (which it looks like) then that's decidedly good news.
The interface looks very nice and manageable, and graphically beautiful as we've come to expect. The hero's followers are shown at the top of the screen, which may be kind of odd but I'm sure it's a step forward.
It looks like you're going to have to use Wood and Stone too to build your buildings. Something very puzzling: There are 4 types of mana, but didn't we hear there will only be 3 factions? Dunno what to make of that.
Maybe they're reserving the extra mana for an expansion faction (and because faction's spells may cost other kinds of mana), but I was expecting them to add more than one expansion faction in the future. Does this mean we'll end up with only 4 factions total? No undeads even with expansions?

The mana isn't faction dependent anymore as i recall. And there will be 5 factions at least...
Edit: Ups, forgot that there are really 5 mana types, the last one is just only half visible. And i don't really recall what the final word on the mana - faction correspondence was.

The unit art is awesome, but 3D still ain't there yet... not without using heavy lighting effects.

That doesn't seem that much for the recommended ones. And i believe Richard Therrien said he ran the game on an FX 5200 just fine.

I don't know if there is any "rule" in the gameindustry as to what exactly "recommended system requirements" mean. What I've read is that recommended specs mean that the game will run flawlessly on the lowest settings on recommended specs.
There would need to be some directions towards this but they have to be varied and stuff since a game with a locked view (Diablo) can't compare to one with a free camera (WoW).
Anyway, it's irrelevant that the game recommends dualcore and old graphics cards when there's new things like quadcore and DirectX 10 graphics cards out. And those that can't afford that are out of the game.

Recommended should mean it runs flawlessly on medium... not that that's always the case.
