Actually that does have me wondering; could we remove some of the higher-level NPCs (have to keep the Level 5 NPCs and the ones tied to quests - Dyson, Overdune, Blazen, and Cauri) to make room for more random ones?

Not really a secret - the scrolls in the place tell you that there's an emergency exit. If not for retail 1.2 breaking the doors here and in Kriegspire then the natural progression for the Prince of Theives quest would have been to fight through here, then fight through the connected dungeons.

I believe you have to take an extra step to go from Peasant to Sorcerer in order to get to Necromancer, but as I've never done this I don't know what it actually is. MM8 can but it's not pointful (every overland map either is a TP target or is orthogonal to one), MM7 has Nighon and Eofol screwing things up.

Warlock is specifically exempted from the path lockout now since it can lead to a new character in Merge. Also I believe the Tomb of the Master simply doesn't exist on the Light route anyway? At the very least I remember it not being accessible in vanilla, though I may be misremembering.

I... don't remember? You can use it to get "stuff", and I know you do something with it at the conclusion of Verdant's quests. Try casting Town Portal where Escaton's Crystal used to stand.
