Re: PC problems thread

I'll try it one day soon, I guess. Thanks for the advice - I'm really busy with work nowadays so I'm not sure when I'll get it done. :)

Re: PC problems thread

Well, right now the two ports on the right have the hard drives, and the CD-ROM drive is on one of the others.

- - HD
C - HD

It doesn't matter which port I connect the CD-drive to, but only the two ports on the right will run an HD.

Re: PC problems thread

Tried disabling DSA. No change.

Updating BIOS is a big step, isn't it? Here's what msinfo says, though:
BIOS version/Date - American Megatrends Inc. P2.50, 08.07.2014
SMBIOS version: 2.7

Re: PC problems thread

The ports are working; they could all rund the DVD optical drive. They just won't run more than 2 hard drives.

Sata controllers: Enabled
Sata mode selection: AHCI
Sata aggressive link power management: Disabled
Dynamic storage accelerator: Enabled
Hard disk s.m.a.r.t: Disabled.

Re: PC problems thread

Update: I connected the new hard drive and the problem persists. Good news is that I now have two new 1TB HDDs, the bad news is that no matter what I do, my PC seems to only ever detect two HDDs in total (the SSD and the 2 TB one). I guess then that the problem must lie in the motherboard; either th...

Re: PC problems thread

Looks like it ... The only other thing I can think of is that there's something wrong with the mobo, but it doesn't seem to be the SATA ports; they work when I hook them up with the CD-ROM drive, for instance. If I take the HDD SATA cable and then plug it into the SATA port the CD drive was connecte...

It doesn't show up in BIOS, no matter which cable or SATA port I use.

Re: PC problems thread

Today's problem: one of the new disks works, the other one doesn't show up in the OS. I've bought new SATA cables, tried different SATA slots, tried different power cables ... currently surfing the web to see if there are any suggestions as to what might be wrong. EDIT: OK, I guess I must have been ...

Re: PC problems thread

I have a 160GB SSD as the main (OS) drive, but as for having more of them ... the 1TB SSD drives are still around $450 whereas I could get the above-mentioned 1TB 3.5" for $100. Basically, I imagine that in 4-5 years time, the 1TB SSDs may have gone down to around $100 so I can start buying tho...

Re: PC problems thread

With the dead HDD, all the files were lost ... All my videos ... and all the Steam games. At least I can re-download those. And the savegames are on the OS drive - suddenly I'm quite happy about the fact that Steam stores the game files in "My documents". :) Bought two new drives, of...

Re: PC problems thread

Bad news: looks like the HD is indeed dead.
I guess that could have been the problem to begin with, but a new PSU doesn't hurt.

Re: PC problems thread

No, the BIOS does not detect the HDD at all. I read some sources and fear that it may have been fried - I hope not since this is my backup disc. I'll take it to the tech guy at work tomorrow and see if there is life in it. Regardless, I noticed that it was made in 2010 and should probably invest in ...

Re: PC problems thread

The HDD is not working. It's not the SATA or power cable ... what else could it be? :scared: It's really weird ... looks like a possible problem with SATA slots on the motherboard, because if I try to move the SATA cable going to the main HDD (with the OS), the PC won't even boot up. It just starts ...

Re: PC problems thread

Aaaargh... if it's not one thing, it's the other. Got my PSU today and installed it. Seems to be working fine except that one of the HDDs isn't detected by the system. Coincidentally the one all my games are on.

Guess I have to check all the cables and see what's going on ...

Re: PC problems thread

Yeah I don't have another PC so I'll have to do the latter. I'll buy the PSU and see what happens. As we know, it never hurts to have more powah. :D
