Heroes Editor

Unread postby Milla aka. the Slayer » 20 Apr 2006, 08:09

Hi, I'd like to know how I can make allied-maps in the editor program?

I've just started making maps a week ago and I would like to know how to make them allied cause I mostly play Heroes IV with one of my friends and we like to be on the same team.
Maybe my English just isn't good enough to understand what the map properties says but I simply can't figure it out.

Help? :hail:

how it works?
there are six radio buttons for every player (because there can be max. 6 teams)
each team has its own column (so for example red and green player are in team 1, the switches for red and green player will be placed in first column)

First, you need to have players on the map. Let's say there are 5 active colors.

The teams-tab will then have a 'number of teams' field with 5 options:
1, 2, 3, 4 and none. None meaning that none of the players will be allied.

Select anything other than none. Now the section below opens up for selection. The x-axis represents the different teams. Player colors are visible on the y-axis. Click the white circles to select which player colors need to be in which team. Each player can only be in 1 team.

Yes and my entire fortune is spent on biscuits... :oex:

Any other tips for beginners like myself? With mapmaking that is...

Actually I have yet another question: Why do my creatures get trapped in their own castles sometimes? At some point I just can't get them out ;|
It happened in Zanfas Challenge once.
Is something wrong?

There is a limit of 8 armies on the adventure map. If you have 8 active armies you cannot 'create' new armies.

As for mapmaking tips; Thelonius just made a list of commands. You can find it in the mapmaking section of CH or the 'Articles' forum of the RT.
In the CH mapmaking section there are several guidances of other mapmakers as well.

How do you know this?

When I bought the game I didn't exactly get a manual (not that I would read it anyways :D ).

But I played it and never figured out why it happened. I'm glad that all of you know it though. I've been playing HIV for a while now and I am getting quite good but if anyone has any pointers I'd love to hear them :)

Do you mean pointers about playing or pointers about mapmaking?

I don’t remember. Sometimes you read it on the forum, sometimes you figure it out yourself and tell others on the forum.

The absence of a complete manual is a problem. But that’s where a forum like this helps a lot :)

only in general:

- play more mplayer than single, you'll learn more from stronger foe than from comp, but change your foes (every player has his own tactics - some1 likes more ranged troops, some1 uses quick attacks, and so on)
- find a good tactics and train it

Thanks....
I guess I need to give it time.....eventually I will get better :S
At least I hope so :D

To wimfrits: Yeah, even though I usually hate manuals I would definitely read it if the game had come with one. I like the book-kind of manuals. I know there's a manual on the cd but I hate computer manuals
It's a complicated game and there are so many things we might never figure out about the game...

The same limit was in earlier games, and I think it was mentioned in a manual at one point or another. Thus, anyone who played an earlier game knew that there had been such a limit previously and could see that it was very likely in effect here as well. With a web forum like this, those who haadn't played earlier games could learn from those who had. Just like you did now ;)
