Something I Only Discovered By Mistake...

Unread postby aaelgr » 26 Oct 2007, 17:44

I just went to play TOTE and only realised after I'd clicked on the icon that I didn't have the disk in I expected a message to come up telling me to do so. Imagine my surprise when I was able to play the game without having the CD in. I know it's stand-alone, but I thought that was just referring to the fact that you don't need HV or HOF...

The game has no copy protection. People found out about that last week.

No kidding. That's one of the many, many things that made Dark Crusade great.
And the chickens. Those damn chickens.

Actually, Relic has, with Company of Heroes:Opposing Fronts, gone to a system where you register the game to thier online service and either have log onto the system (if your online) or have the dvd in the drive (if you're not connected to the internet).

@Avonu

Stardock published it themselves... and it wasn't the 3rd expansion. But yeah, they probably made a great point with it and influenced everyone else.

No copy protection is great. It's a huge convenience. About time the business gets that no matter what they try, there'll always be those able to crack their protection and pirate their products anyway... what they should do is make it easier for people to use their stuff rather than harder. If it's easier downloading a pirate copy than using a legit one... well, you do the math and think about which alternative people will go for.

It's just brillant. Now I can play my pirated version without having to go through suspicious sites in search of a no-dvd crack...

i'm a Shift + Del man myself... ever since i learned it after that computer class assistant chick told me about it when i sent the game she had me delete to the recycle bin for later retrieval... lucky me that i really didn't know about it so i was surprised enough to make her drop it... as soon as she left i played again, now in possession of a new short-cut...

Personally I see myself more of a Alt + Ctrl + Delete man... search and destroy all natural processes... and if that doesn't work... well throw the god damn thing out the window....
