Playing (or inability to play) on lap top

I installed the game about 2 weeks ago and played fine for about a week. I think that the last day I played Win came through with and update (not 100% sure), anyway the next day the game will not load. I get an error message that the pogram has stopped working and windows attempts to find a reason (but never finds one).
Anyway my set up is as follows:
Alienware M17x
Intel Core 2 Duo T9550 @2.66 GHz
GeForce 9400M G
4 GB memory

Once the game wouldn't load I uninstalled it and re-installed but that didn't work. I contacted Ubisoft, but their response was the game wasn't supported on lap tops. I then tried to go back in history and the last clean resore point was right before I re-installed the software, nd that didn't work either.


Any suggesstions to get it running again?

Hi back. ;)

Yes, scroll down in our MM:H6 FAQ. And look for FAQ section. You should try to rename your profile file first, the game will automatically create a new one. And enable windowed mode.

(!) Also it's probably worthy to try to reinstall your graphic nvidia drivers and reset all their settings to default, prior to both actions. :)

Thanks for taking the time and effort to respond. I guess I didn't describe the error message: After selecting go to game the little pop up with the VI logo on it appeared (as usual) with a smller circle going around and around. That is as far as the game got since Windows responded that the program has stopped working and searches for a reason, which was never found.

Now what I did do was to uninstall again and then proceed into the registry and deleted anything that had to do with Ubisoft, U2, Game Launcher and Heroes VI (I still have 1-5 installed). After re-installing updates 1.1.1 and 1.2 the game worked, then 1.4 through 1.7 I got to the point of the black screen with the smaller circle going around, but no further. At this time I read your post and renamed the profiledata file. With update 1.7.1 the game plays now. I'm posting the procedure is case anyone else has a similar problem.

I do have one other issue with one of the scenarios either Feuding Duchies, Silence of the Ancestors or Broken Alliance (I'm not sure which one). Once a hero takes a travel monolith the screen goes way black and I could not proceed further. Has anyone else had a similar occurence and fixed it?

Gak another small problem with the video. When the hero enters into a town many times all that is viewed is a bunch of grey and white rectangles. The sub screens are displayed correctly, not the "back ground" Also some of the vegitation are a myriad of colors that flicker.

I have tried to change various parameters and the behavior still exists. Now for the interesting part, on another pc, loading the game from the cloud, the towns back ground displays correctly. This behavior was not observed when the game first was installed, just after the second installation and current playing. Any help would be beneficial.

Yes, the "chessboard" is a fully new bug introduced with patches 1.7.0 & 1.7.1. It's reported on all nvidia cards. Lucky one who knows the solution... kinda like next patch needed.

Never happened to me. It's also graphical bug. Perhaps you may try to set up your game graphic settings to the lowest, then going through the monolith and see. :)

I see that patches are available to down load. Two questions come to mind:
1. Western Europe version then a same digital digital--What is the difference and which was down loaded by the updater?
2. Would it be possible to down load the previous patches and apply them to the game that has already had 1.7.1 installed?

This might get rid of the checker board effect display in the towns/forts.

Edited: How can the game be played without going through the U2 updater? Other than just disconnecting from the internet?

No. Or to say it better, they're already installed.

Likely not. There were complaints about not displayed town screens and nvidia cards - there was black bakground. So Ubi pushed an update and now you see the checker board.

There may be some other setting, either in the game profile file or in the registry for vga card which would rectify it. However tampering in that direction is uncertain and I don't have nvidia card (neither the game installed) to be helpful.

I know only one way and never tested it. Somewhere in the deep streams of the Internet dwells Resource Editor for HeroesVI. If that one is launched without parameters - the game is directly launched instead in offline mode.

In other words, by a standard ways you will not be able to bypass U2 Updater, which is part of game obligatory Uplay system.

Sorry, for me this game is a failure. I simply uninstalled this game few days ago, after trying the 1.7.1 patch.

After many patches it may be an average game. But it never will be great Might&Magic Heroes game. :(

Some people found out that they can avoid it by using older nvidia drivers. Perhaps, try that. :)

That is exactly what I see. I don't know how to roll back drivers and don't want to pay the tech service for that effort, so I'll wait for another patch.
I agree with your analysis of the game, it isn't up to par with V for sure.

No, there's unconfirmed patch 1.8. ;)
I recieved this from Ubisoft today:

Most of the customers who had the same problem with the game fixed the issue by changing the texture quality of the game. By changing it from low to high resolved the checkered board issue. If that did not fix the issue, then the development team may have to release a patch or they may have to work with Nvidia to see if a update will help the issue. It has to do with the graphics and textures so a work around from us here at support may not be a true fix and the only thing that may fix it is going to be a patch update.
That worked for me so I'll post it here for anyone else to read. Note they earlier, suggested settings low, but reversed that today.
