WIP - Landscape Texture Replacer Mod

Unread postby redwoodtreesprite » 14 Jan 2007, 17:50

(WIP means Work In Progress)

I'm so used to these texture replacers in Morrowind, and when I saw how blurry many of the textures are in Heroes 5, I decided to make a texture replacer mod.

I'm starting with the dirt and swamp water textures. Some are completely new, and others are the game textures tweaked and sharpened by me. All of the textures are saved in the way Nival did, and have the same file size, so other than extra room taken in your data files, there should be no effect on game performance.

Here's some pics of the dirt replacer textures ingame:

And here's the grassy swamp water texture ingame. It looks cool, but it can be a bit unsettling seeing the grass swaying and swirling in the water, so I will have a version without the swamp water texture as well.

I'm still working on textures, but decided to go ahead and release the dirt and swamp water textures. They are currently not in a .pak, but work fine loose. Here's the files, along with a readme that has installation info and full texture credits:

Nice, I can't wait to give it a try. It's in the news.

Cool! :D

I'm working now on the grass textures. Because the main grass texture is the same as the flower field grass texture base, I need to have the replacer textures match as well. So I am making the flowers part as a top layer that I can put over the final high-res grass texture. I'm about half-way through the flowers right now, so it should be soon, hopefully a week at the most. (I'm a bit of a perfectionist when it comes to making new textures, so I want these to look as good as possible.)

Thanks. :)
It's kindof fun, seeing the game graphics gradually transformed.

Here's the latest grass category texture, the field:

I'm almost done the grass folder replacer textures. So it should be a few days at the most for them to be ready to upload.

Here's the grass and cropfield textures:

I had trouble whenever I tried logging in here for a while, so this post is delayed compared to the other Heroes 5 mod forums.

Next I'm working on lava, snow and swamp textures.

I have a question for those using the 2.1 patch for HoF, as we don't plan to be installing it.

Does the texture replace still work in the loose folders? Or are they ignored?
