Legacy of Kain

Unread postby ThunderTitan » 03 Apr 2007, 14:58

I don't belive we don't have a thread for it. Best story ever or what?! (let's ignore BO2, shall we)

They just have to make another one, and Raziel better be in it.

I've only played the first one on Playstation: Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain
It was the Diablo view and you slayed things with swords and magic. You could find four other swords and four other armors. The thing was you could create good combinations. Flesh armor together with one of the weapons lifedrained enemies twice. Probably were more combinations but I never found out about any others.

Magics were cool though. Life drain at range and triple lifedrain at range were great. Funny that I don't remember the other ones....

I remember killing the final boss with the last sword (Soulreaver) which ate mana like candy. Used a magic that temporarily gave you full mana and then used an invincibility shield and slashed away. Too easy that way but he was too tough otherwise.

And after you've won you could select the ending. Good or evil....

A cool game but once you've finished it it's done.

Link to all the cinematics of the Legacy of Kain games.

I think the fourth one of the original is the coolest. "King atmar, the USE-LESS!" "The ignus factua, lights the path to hell. YOUR path!" Really cool.

haven't played it, but would be surprised if the story beat that of the BG series, or even GoW

I have many fine memories of Legacy of Kain 2: Soul Reaver. Too bad I managed to lose it years ago.
And the chickens. Those damn chickens.

I liked all the games in the Legacy of Kain series very much (except maybe BO2) but I wouldn't say it is the best story ever. Still it is indeed a great story, with a clever use of time travel. The dialogue and narration are really good. Maybe the Soul Reaver blade is a bit too much like Stormbringer from Elric's saga... (see the end of Soul Reaver 2...)

In the french version Kain's voice is the french voice of Morgan Freeman, a really charismatic voice. Even if he seems a bit older than in english, but I always found it particularly fitting for the "old" Kain.

And yes, Kain is one of the best characters ever created in video games. The way he is pictured in the Soul Reaver / Defiance arc is just brilliant.

Name the video game series with the better story...

And i doubt soul eating swords are that uncommon in fantasy... (plus wiki says that Stormbringer IS a demon in sword form, not contained within a blood drinking sword)

I'd say Torment has a superior story, but it's not a series.

Have you played part one? The original who started it all?

Anyway, watch the cinematics of the games on youtube through the link I gave. One guy has uploaded all cinematics and they're in chronological order. I've seen all cinematics of part 1, 2 and 3. Gonna see Soul Reaver 2 soon (and gonna install Defiance sometime soon).

TT: Get it on the Playstation then :p

Have you checked the cinematics for the original? Funny that they're like 1000x cooler than those of Soul Reaver :)

I never knew exactly how he said that. Thought it sounded like FEY VICTORS!

Listened to it again. It's definetly Vey Victas as you say.

Of course not. But if you read the last book of Elric's sage and played Soul Reaver 2 you'll know the ending, at least as far as the sword is concerned, is very much the same.

Betrayal at Krondor has the best story I've seen in game. Plots and twists alone can't make great story, the way the story is told is important too. BaK hits full marks in that.

I've played Torment through but story in BaK feels more mature and intriguing.

i completely agree, plot twists aren't the only thing that make a story great.

incidentally betrayal at krondor is available for download at that site. i'll give it a try and thanks for the suggestion

ive only played the original Blood Omen (got from HomeOfTheUnderdogs). and my fav character was Malek the Paladin, dont know why but he just was really well done. and the story was great & weapons REALLY WERE unique, something you rarely see these days (eg, Diablo has almost infinite combination of weapons, but theyre all so similar, just stats and some small addition).

I really liked Betrayal at Krondor. I played the demo years ago and never was able to find the full version.

They have Amulets and Armor! I haven't played that game in years.
And the chickens. Those damn chickens.
