Dark Messiah in the Spotlight

Unread postby Angelspit » 24 Jul 2006, 20:39

<a href="/https://www.celestialheavens.com/dmomm/ ... .png"><img src="/https://www.celestialheavens.com/dmomm/ ... hot_sm.png" align=right vspace=10 hspace=10></a>Dark Messiah of Might and Magic was a star last week when Ubisoft allowed gaming publications to talk about the game. So after a few days, countless previews of the game were published on the Net, with most of the authors having very positive first impressions. Here is a quick and dirty summary:

<a href="/http://www.gamespot.com/pc/action/darkm ... ameSpot</a> has a written and a video interview. We learn that the "crusade multiplayer mode is intended to be a prequel to Heroes V, a game in which the lands of the humans were invaded by undead marauders." <a href="/http://pc.gamespy.com/pc/might-and-magi ... GameSpy</a> describes it as a promising but currently unbalanced game. They say that "the priestess' forgiving play mechanics were designed to appeal to the not-so-hardcore." <a href="/http://www.jolt.co.uk/index.php?articleid=6640">Jolt</a> praises the fairly involved combat system, but notices many similarities to games such as Battlefield. <a href="/http://www.palgn.com.au/article.php?tit ... ">PALGN</a> is very enthusiastic: "Words can’t describe how enjoyable this game is, and just how good it looks in the flesh."

Last but not least, there's a very detailed description of the multiplayer classes at <a href="/http://gaming.hexus.net/content/item.ph ... ">HEXUS</a>, as well as two cool maps of Stonehelm and Broder Keep. If you can find your way around that site, there's the layout of a strategy guide over there. Highly recommended.

No further comment from me. I'll give them some time before I make judgement. This game I won't preorder like HOMM V to make sure everything is in order ;)

I got a silly question. Is this Dark Messiah the one that we accidently accomplished along the campaign in HoMM5? :p

No, this apparently is the prequel to the story of HOMM V

I hope no more then two Messiah's because that would get confusing. They do seem to like those Orcs alot. In early screens and still now there were mostly orcs in it. An now they're even on the box!

When someone asks whether your glass is half full or half empty, always say your glass is entirely full. The actual contents of the glass is not relevant.

Clarification time: in Heroes V there is a Demon Sovereign, not a Messiah. And while the multiplayer Crusade Mode is a prequel to Heroes V, the single-player campaign takes place *after* the Heroes V campaigns.

Wow, they're doing a pretty good job at confusing the fans :baby: ;|

Maybe we should play the multiplayer dark messiah, then heroes V, then the single player dark messiah lol. Well, if we can ever figure it out it'd be a cool story hopefully.

I'm sure there won't be much story in the Crusade Mode. :) It's probably just a way to put the action into context.

Maybe they should also put the story into context. But since DM takes place in a whole different region of Ashan neither the story before or after is of large consequence, I think. We could just say they take place around the same time.

Has anyone downloaded the gameplay trailer from Strategy Informer? There's a link on the HEXUS review down the bottom of the gameplay impressions page. It's 20 meg and it's pretty good.

Yes, that's the "choice" movie. It's simply awesome, especially the multiplayer battle scenes near the end. I should link to it from the Movies page.

That's just because you weren't listening hard enough.

No it isn't. It happens 20 years after HoMM5. Only the Crusade MP mode apparently happens before.
