Letter #3: The Battlefield
Letter #3: The Battlefield
Ubisoft published a third development letter, this time on the <a href="/http://mightandmagic.com/uk/dev_letter_3.php">official Web site</a>. The unsigned article, which looks like something Fabrice would have written, tells the story of the Heroes of Might and Magic V Battlefield, and how it went from a dynamic size to 8x10 and finally 10x12.
<i>"Another problem appeared thanks to the beta test : the balancing was turning into a headache with multiple sizes for the battlefield. It is not only about giving more movement points to each creature, but also balancing area effect spells, shooter and caster capacities, plus all the side effects on attack, defense values or hit points."</i>

I'm still not sure that only having 2 free spaces between creatures is enough, but it's way better than none at all.

Human madness is the howl of a child with a shattered heart.
The automatic "Tactics Mode" is a bad move if their goal was to speed up gameplay. Sure it's nice to carefully position your troops before an epic battle, but what about the 30 insignificant battles that preceeded it? I hated having to layout my troops every time I needed to sweep aside a bunch of skeletons.

@ Kristo
Agreed, arranging troops in an automatic tactic phase when encountering a couple of wandering monsters or a small enemy army sveral time after each other is just tiresome and gets boring in the lenght.

Err, last used placement is memorized, isn't it? If you placed your troops for one battle, next time you can hit enter or mouse button to skip the tactics part quickly. There is also auto-placement function if you never want to do the drag and drop by yourself.Kristo wrote: I hated having to layout my troops every time I needed to sweep aside a bunch of skeletons.
I'm wondering, what would it be like to have a battlefield with the size 100x120?
I mean, it would certainly be an innovation, not only could positioning your troops be expanded into dividing up your army into several companies, but tactics would become more important in the actual move towards your opponent as well.
Yeah, yeah, I know... I'll go away..

And if you want one unit/square, I'd skip the damn grid anyway, and go full Total War style...

Looks like the Game may be out before the demo..is that the new thing to do:)??
In the world of the Dead, its nice to be alive,I think.

Many demos are out after the game is released. What's wrong with that? I would like to try a sirkular battlefield. With flanking possibilities! How cool is that!
