News  → Elemental: War of Magic Announced

Stardock has officially announced the title for its upcoming fantasy turn-based strategy game, Elemental: War of Magic. This game has been jokingly referred to as "Not Master of Magic" on the Stardock forums. They were not able to make a direct sequel to MOM due to licensing issues. Elemental: War of Magic borrows concepts from many existing fantasy strategy titles. Stardock CEO Brad Wardell told Gamasutra:

"There's stuff in Civilization that we've taken; there's stuff from Master of Magic, Heroes of Might & Magic, Risk, Populous -- you name it," he said. "I have no shame when it comes to borrowing and being inspired by other games."

The game is scheduled for release in February 2010. Fans who pre-order will be able to participate in a public beta starting in June of 2009. Beta-testers will be allowed to contribute content using Elemental's modding tools.

Read more about Elemental: War of Magic on the game's homepage.

Well I enjoy Galactic Civilization II, Stardock is a good company and I loved MOM. Maybe it will be the game that rekindles my interest in computer gaming, heaven knows UBI probably won’t.

Having an opinion also means we're free to attack it... viciously even.

Let see you are not called Disciples so where is the insult to you?
Having an opinion on game, however negative, is a free matter.
So since I haven't insulted you keep your Spam coming.

Yes, when ppl insult you the proper course of action is to slowly repeat what you said... it really helps in giving a good impression of your mental facilities... :disagree:

Anywhere what Disciples has to do with Elemental and Master of Magic ?

15 races?! and how many where actually different from each other. (and Disciples also has research for spells)

Discoples is a primitive game not that I try to

and have nots whatever to do with M of M
or Age of Wonders.Yes I am a fan of AoW but it has 15 races+around
hundred neutral creatures, three level world, research of spells and skills for your wizard, exiting turn-base combat which calculates height, obstacles and has real city-sieges.What can possibly Disciples
to counte that with?

Seems more like D3 and this game will be competitors in the TBS area as they will come out closer together (unless D3 actually stops getting delayed).

Hooray for TBS! I am glad someone is doing it again. I will buy the thing just to encourage the genre. Besides that, this looks like a good game. Win win. I like it.

In MOM it was all about the battles, creating creatures of magic and giving magical weapons to your heroes. You had a feel of controlling a large army.I had a hard time believing I had 600 peasents in one spot.

I'd have to play a demo before I got hyped over this. I didn't really care for Master of Magic. (though Heroes of Might & Magic and Populous are all on the top of my charts)

hooray :) looks interesting at least!

I saw somewhere that the target retail price will be $49.95 US, ten dollars more than GalCiv 2. Is that the cost of multiplayer perhaps? It's the same development team.

It is nice to see another turn based fantasy strategy game coming out. I like the Galactic Civ games so I'm sure they'll do a good job on the game.

Yes, probably not the best box to attract the buyer's attention on a shelf, but it sure brings that feeling of nostalgia.

The box has this nostalgic feel of good old pen & paper role-playing games ^^
