Do the rings of damage and protection stack?

Not sure, but I know that only the highest total bonus for tactic bonuses (speed, initiative, offense, defense, morale and luck) counts. Thus, having two different heroes equipped with a horseshoe is a waste of slots. Likewise is giving one hero the dwarven shield (+20% defense) when another hero has expert defense.
