Heroes IV: Rate it!

Unread postby Metathron » 23 Jun 2006, 21:12

Simple as that, rate the whole Heroes IV enterprise, meaning the original game, including both expansions (and therefore patches) and Equilibris, if you use it.

Love it, loathe it, or something inbetween?

I am loving it! H4 made me a fan of the series and I thats why I'll never forget it.
When I bought H3RoE and played it, I put it on a shelf because it was boring. It needed 3 months until I played it again and tought it wasn't that bad. Still, it was never as good as H4.
I am back and ready to... ready to... post things.

I'm gonna give it a 7, as the implementation of certain features was sorta lacking.

With Equilibris definately a 9.

Lacking in some areas but the overall enjoyment factor is very very high, still the Heroes game I play more often (and still do despite H5 sitting on my computer ¬_¬).

I was going to give it a 7, then I played H-V which I might give a 7, so I had to give H-IV a 9.

I gave it a 7. I liked the initial release and liked everything at first, but the lousy implementation of Heroes in combat gradually dragged it down for me. That and the expansions were pieces of crap.

7. Lack of adventure map AI, and certain aspects of heroes in combat is what's dragging down the grade.

If I were to rate the game upon release, I'd give it a rather low grade of 5. However, I grew to like, and eventually love, the game, and not just because of Equilibris.

I was very much tempted to give it a 10, but decided on a more objective (relative, I know) mark of 9, almost solely on account of the adventure map AI. Other than that, I adore every aspect of HoMM IV and consider it as one of my very favourite games.

@Bandobras

I actually never bunch the two expansions together. While I thought tWoW was outright bad, I quite enjoyed tGS.

@DL

What imbalances do you mean? Or are you excluding Equilibris (though I did ask about it in the first post)?

I gave it a 9. I have spent many many hours playing and making HOMM4 maps and I love it, especially with the Equilibris mod. Some people never gave it a chance because of some differences from HOMM3. Their loss.

I meant the hero-creature imbalance.

I'll give it an 8..Hated it to death at first, but after lots of gameplay it grew on me..A couple flaws, but it had some great ideas that should have been used in Heroes V..

I gave it a 10. I really enjoy playing H4 and hopefully I always will. There are of course a few things that could be improved but I still love the game :-D
I just love the feeling I get when my behind is hurting and my neck is stuck and I realize it's because I've been sitting an entire day playing H4 B-) Love it love it love it..

Btw: did I say I love it? :D

Playing since KB but H4 was the first to make me play 12 straight hours so that's a 10/10

I really like the game - and have spend many hours with it.
My biggest issue with it, is the rather poor adventure map AI (as mentioned by others).

9/10 from me.

And that's why you should have voted 9. If it has flaws it shouldn't get a 10 no matter how much you love it.

I mentioned earlier my 9, some feel the AI was too weak, it was. Yet the custom maps made by several people here at the forum who learned to compensate for that went on to create some of the best maps I have ever played. :applause:
