Resident Evil/Biohazard

Unread postby ThunderTitan » 14 Jun 2006, 21:25

I only played #3 (damn consoles), but it was a really great game. Nothing like killing hordes of mindless Zombies.

I also heard that some people defeated Nemesis with only a knife... anyone like that around here?

Didn't play RE 3, played only RE 1 Remake and RE 4.

I've got to say, this series is a definite favourite of mine.

Speaking of knifing stuff, I knifed the Tyrant from RE 1 and all kinds of weird stuff in RE 4, like Jack Krauser - who takes like 50x damage from knives - and then about a thousand ganados.

By the way, there was this crazy minigame for RE 4, - "The Mercenaries" - and it took me weeks to finish it with five stars on all characters.

So... how many have played the games in the series?

RE3 also had a "Mercenaries" mini-game, which I never managed to finish... but I did get enought money from it to buy a nice unlimited ammo machinegun.

Resident Evil has a terrible storyline, nothing necesarily wrong with that mind you, but they take their whole zombie plot way too seriously for me to not laugh out loud at it. I never much cared for the "boo" nature of the scares in RE, but I love Silent Hill and that is avaliable for the PC. The first two, especially the second, are some of the best horror stories ever told. And if I may be so bold, I am rather well versed in the medium to make such a call.

TT, do yourself a favor, if possible, rent a PS2/Gamecube and give RE4 a try. Truly it IS one of the best games ever made.

It's actually coming to the PC pretty soon™; Ubisoft's site has a date set for this month.

Also, it includes Ada's missions -- Separate Ways, something that the GC version lacks.

I assume you played RE 4, Derek?
If you did, watch that spoof -- it's almost better than the game... almost. :D

I have fond memories of playing the original on PS, then slightly less fond memories of RE2, then a bit less of 3 again, and then I couldn't be bothered anymore as they seemed to release all sorts of spinoffs and such.

But the original, now, is great. It has a great storyline, as it suits the game overall very well. And the intro movie is on top of my coolest intro ever-list :) It's so thoroughly corny.

At first we played it at my friend without saving, as he didn't have a memory card. Added to the suspense to be sure.

Ah, so sad then. I suppose we rich Americans are used to being able to go and rent a console for a few dollars. ;)

Well, even if you cannot rent a console I reccomend that you give Silent Hill(PC version) a whirl. Truly great, and I would very much think that you would enjoy it.

And besides, Pyramid Head beckons...

Maybe someday, well after our generation, videogame makers will decide to clean up ports and really make them shine.

Oh, looky:
A PC port of Resident Evil 4 was developed by SourceNext and published by Electronics Arts in TW and Typhoon Games (HK) Ltd.in HK (excluding Japan) in February 2007. The port will be published in North America by Ubisoft and will ship in May 2007. Ubisoft shipped the European version on March 2, 2007. The port contains the bonus features from the PlayStation 2 version, such as "Separate Ways", the P.R.L. 412 laser cannon, and unlockable costumes for Leon and Ashley. It has no mouse support and is missing all lighting and shader effects. The PC port's manual also mistakenly switches buttons 1 and 3 .
Lighting and shader effects is why i bought my videocard in the first place (old one had rappy ones, couldn't play LEGO SW on it).
