Advice about buying Heroes VI?

Unread postby cjlee » 23 Oct 2016, 20:22

I've played H6 before but not Shades of Darkness expansion.

Now I see it on sale here
https://www.g2a.com/heroes-6-shades-of- ... KEYS&id=13

at 3.39 Euros.

Now that sounds like an entirely appropriate price.

Anyone would like to comment? The H6 and H7 expansions are the only Heroes games that I haven't bought, and somehow I feel that my heroes gaming is incomplete. At least I need to get Trial By Fire and Shades of Darkness at some point. Just not willing to spend more than a few bucks since my intention is to play the official campaigns and one or two maps, after which I deinstall permanently.

I just don't want Shades of Darkness to screw up my computer, or have game breaking bugs that cause me to be unable to finish the campaign. I understand that Black Hole entertainment went bankrupt thanks to this experience?

SoD were done by Virtuos.

There are some game breaking bugs presented, if that happens you need to reload that part of campaign. The late is game is also bit of boring (yes, that's the part with bugs, when you are against Inferno). If you will be trying to playing it just for sake of completeness I would advise against it. You will save some precious time.

Your impression is wrong, you have all HOMM titles if you own the first 5. MMH1 and MMH2 are different games.

Wow, that bad huh? Even at 3 Euros this game is a waste of time. That says a lot.

You can see what a disaster Ubisoft has been to the franchise. I am really intellectually keen on buying, but I don't want to be suckered. And I haven't been impressed with what i've seen, to the point where even my residual goodwill for this franchise is not enough to overcome a price of only 3 Euros.

And you, Pol, are an admin on a fansite dedicated to Heroes. And you think H6 is a waste of time even for 3 Euros. If you think like this, we will need to pay newcomers $100 each to even play H6 for a day.

I wish Ubisoft employees were reading this. When the Chinese company Chery bought Volvo a few years back people were all afraid that they would turn Volvo into a cheapo Chinese brand. But Chery kept all the management and employees and did not ship the machinery to China, and have maintained Volvo as a reputable brand. My hats off to Chery actually; their top guys were born in a poor socialist economy full of Great Leap Forward and other propaganda, and they still understand the meaning of Brand Awareness, Corporate Goodwill, etc.

What Ubisoft has done to Heroes, is as though they started producing 'iconic' HOMM Sandro toilet paper, HOMM Crag Hack diapers, HOMM Gem pantyliners using low grade recyclable trash, and are banking on fan goodwill to buy their stuff.

Don't take me wrong, I think that H6 is good for campaigns, the addons "from Marzhin" are even better, only the SoD is subpar. And I actually loved Christmas map! :)

Now how much it costs me? 50€ for Heroes6 + 7€ Heroes6 Complete, or whatetever is called the edition with all addons, via humblebundle.com.

But it was fun in the beginning, now these times are like four years ago. Sadly this was (almost) zero longevity game. But still is beautiful.

Lmao you think it would change anything? After the h6 fiasco they kept the same path for h7, removing the mythology and dumbing down the game, I even spoke personally to them, they were so sure I was wrong and h7 would do fantastic, yeah right.

I have finished the addon twice and have not experienced any single gamebreaking bug. Only stupid AI.

What's the Christmas map you mention? Btw. I think the last map of the SoD addon was really good. Just the story was too confusing, I still have no idea where Raelag is or how they forgot him or what.
