Download vs. DVD

Unread postby Kalah » 29 Sep 2015, 12:32

I am currently downloading Heroes VII from Steam at 6.2MB/s, still it takes a long time. Digital distribution is great, but for the really big games I still see a future for physical copies - especially if you don't have quick broadband connections. How about you? Are you downloading it or getting a DVD? What can you tell us about installation times?

Well, I preloaded in Uplay already. But I will not be home from work for another 7 hours to load the patch.

Hi all,

I'm a bit diseappointed because I'll be delivered tomorrow afternoon. And I will download the patch with 300Kb/s (5h to get it) from my house in a far away countryside of France :)

I was hoping to be delivered today... gonna watch movies until UPS come home :)

Unfortunately, in this case even buyers of the physical version will still have to download a rather huge day-1 patch, as was explained in this blog post.

@Marzhin: Hence my nagging Ubisoft about torrents the last 4 years.

Getting 2.8 to 2.9 MB/s right now.

Edited to add that roughly 1/3 downloaded in the last five minutes.

Can't really download a collector's edition of the game, so physical for me.

Don't prices vary too much when going from one to another? There this 'default' pricing used in my country whenever you go to a store buying a game. Sometimes it's way above of what you can get on Steam or all the way around, much cheaper than online store & deliver.
