Funny how they spent 30k hours to polish every graphic yet they forgot the sulphur graphic in the resources bar is incomplete. I mean, this is the detail you see the whole game.

Hm... I do prefer the old graphics somehow. Things looked a bit more aesthetic this way. Seeing that Hillfort in HD made me wonder many things on this HD business when converting old graphics. Perhaps just the way it was executed then. Things look too new, as if they were just built.

They look too cartoony and flat. The originals were more realistically shaded and whatnot. And yes, the hill fort is probably the worst offender in this shot, they turned an early mediæval castle built from various stones into an artificial-looking brick castle. Really weird.

Thanks, I've been looking for such a side-by-side comparison.
I'm on Steam and Xbox Live.

I agree with Panda Tar and GreatEmerald, sad to say. The older graphics look properly 'aged'. Some of the newer graphics remind me of prefabricated buildings.

H3HD looks a bit inconsistent. Some graphics are clearly just a touched-up version of the original, like the ore mine; for others, like the hill fort, they have taken quite a few creative liberties. I wonder how specific the instructions for the artists were.

I think the new version looks very nice. Is it free? I'm honestly not sure I can play H3 again, but the improved graphics make it tempting.

I agree with Panda, the first thing I don't like is the Hill Fort.

I'll agree that the Hill Fort is poorly done.

Just not for the reasons previously listed. :)

The foremost tower is missing a third arrowslit.

The shading makes the leftmost part look hexagonal rather than round.

They failed to understand that the straight line along the left side of the main face in the original was the connection to the foremost tower.

But to those of you saying it looks too new and shiny, you missed the cracks in the stone running along the main face to the right of the flubbed straight line. :)
Far too many people speak their minds without first verifying the quality of their source material.

So, is it a free patch or what?

Oh, I get a choice! How about a free copy of H3-HD. :)

I know that $15 is not a lot of money, but I have played H3 more than everyone here combined. I don't think I can go back. I really like H5 now, even though I have not played for some time. I'll even try H6, if I see it for dirt cheap.
Is it more balanced now? I know that some scenarios were impossible.
