A simple rendering of the MMX Legacy world map, as shown on the official site.

We have no information as yet of more detailed maps coming, but we hope there will be other versions with explanatory texts and features.

This shape looks awfully familiar to me somehow. But I can't remember where exactly I saw it... Maybe one of the HoMM3 campaign screens?

My first thought was Beleriand, but it's not covered by water from the north and south. Speaking of which, man, Silmarillion is an awesome book.

My first thought was that it looked vaguely Anatolian.

Yeah, it looks like a cross between the Anatolia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:AnatolieLimits.jpg), and Middle Earth (http://lotr.wikia.com/wiki/File:Middle-earth.jpg).

Why is it that with all HOMM worlds the continent is surrounded by waters to west, mountains (or lands) to the east, and the bad guys are always at the East, and good guys at the West? Cliché much??

I mean, Tolkien did that, fine, no need to dig into his motivations, but enough already! Have some imagination!
I believe in science and that science can explain everything.

What we have seen of Ashan so far seems to be based on Europe. With that in mind this region may be the Ashan equivalent of the Brittany region of France.
