GOG M&M Sale

Unread postby Kalah » 19 Dec 2012, 19:27

Our friends over at Good Old Games have a really great Might & Magic sale up, of which there are less than 20 hours remaining (thanks to Fuddelbaerentatze for the tip-off). You get a 75% off when buying 11 games at once, giving you M&M 1-9, HoMM 1-5, Crusaders and Chronicles for $25.89 (full price would be $103.89). If ever you wanted to get hold of these old gems, I guess now's as good a time as any! If you don't want all the games, there's still a 50% discount on buying the selected games.

Other games on sale: the Ultima series at -75%, Sierra's Quest games for less than $20 and The Witcher 2 (enh. ed.) at $7.49 (was $29.99). It is a bit weird that game #3 is not included in the Master of Orion sale, but it's nowhere near the other two in quality anyway. Master of Orion 1 and 2 are among the best games ever made. On GoG you can get them both for $2.99. Best. Buy. Ever.

Ah, Ultima... It's a sad thing to say, but those games remain my best memories from my college years! :)

GOG M&M Sale

I d/l'ed MoO1+2 and fired up the first one. Except for a small trip into some kind of demo version a while back, I haven't played it since ... well, the 90s, when I was over at a friend's house and got hooked - pity it had no multiplayer. I later bought #2 and it's been my all-time fave ever since.

It's all much of the muchness: terrible graphics, cheap MIDI music ... and I still love it. :D

GOG M&M Sale

I bought Might and Magic 1-8, Heroes 1-4, Duke Nukem 1-3, Thief 1-3. Fallout 1 and 2, Lords of the Realm 1 and 2, Master of Orion 1 and 2, Heroes Chronicles, Crusaders of Might and Magic, Planescape Torment and Dreamfall, for 90 $ :D Most of these I alreaddy own; it's the 4th or 5th time I buy a copy of Might and Magic 7, but it's handy to have them in a DRM-free install package like this.

I wonder if the MOO II they are selling really works in XP and Windows 7 as the add proclaims? The old dos/95 versions need lots of tricks to work.

I have been playing MOO II that I bought from GOG on my win 7 64bit professional laptop. Once in a great while it may crash, but I am not sure that isn't caused by another issue I am having. I have run it with and without using the WinXP compatibility mode and not noticed much of a difference.

MOO2 (original, I don't how about GoG version) works OK on Win7. All you need is creating (or downloading) bat file, which fix few issues. You can search this fix in net if you need it.

I've played it both ways and the GOG version is easier and has fewer crashes, at least for me. The GOG version launches a DOSBox session and then the game without the player doing anything but launch the game. DOSBox can be intimidating to some setting it up, but here it is setup completely by the install program requiring no user input; all very easy and user friendly. :-D

I'm playing MoO1 on Win7 now - tested it quickly on XP as well and it worked. The only problem is the tiny map window, but that's part of the game's UI and not something you can just "fix".

Well I decided to buy the MM pack for $25. I tried to deselect H-V as I was not interested in it but the price jumped up to $41 dollars. So I guess they are paying me $16 dollars to accept H-V on my computer.

GOG M&M Sale

Sounds a bit weird, maybe, but that's common in package deals; the deal is for the whole thing, buying individually gets more expensive.

That is obviously what was going on, but it still amused me at the time. :D
