HoMM II & III The Succession Wars Mod

Unread postby Kivoss » 10 Jan 2012, 18:47

This is a coversion which me and mister_kalu from heroes community are working at. I joined a year after he has started the project, which is going for about 2 years. I am the "grahics man" and mister_kalu is the main creator of the mod. It is a coversion of homm3 mechanics with homm2 graphics, music and generally style. Anyway here the latest video. Check out the chanel which has more videos of the mod.

Nice, not that i will install it, but doing something like this is very plausible - for someone who can not find a balance between HOMM2 and HOMM3 this is the thing to get!
Heroes franchise was not about the free actions of Heroes or monsters, it was not about 3D of shiny graphics either, it was about diversity and balance, simplicity of gameplay and realistic picture, strategy in it's purest form. That's why Heroes 3 will be the greatest game of all, because only Heroes 3 has all those qualities together, no matter which one you personally like more. This statement is unquestionable, uncriticized and undeniable .

The technical achievement is amazing, kudos for the constant work and dedication. Now, for its utility, I see none, except if you are in a deep boredom and want some new graphics, but are they new?

I do not share Kalu opinions about H3 being a failure compared to H2, therefore I can't get the idea why one would prefer to go back, play H3 with H2 mechanics and graphics. Nonetheless, the quality is outstanding.

Me, kalu and many others prefer the Heroes 2 graphics and not only. We have many memories from our childhood which we would like to bring back. Im not saying that I dont like Heroes 3 ( because I love it! ), but it has something that is missing from the previous game. Combining the two games gathers all the amosphere together. When the mod is going to be finished I probably wont be able to stop playing hot-seat with my friends.

Of course we need to work on many aspects of the mod: Fortress, Inferno, Gypsy Castle, creatures, adventure map buildings, campaigns and so on, but the final release will hopefully interest many. However the process is very slow as kalu doesnt have much time to spend on the mod, so if anyone would like to join message me! ( heroes community: Kivo, email: Kivo1991@wp.pl )

Splendid, I love the idea, a dream come true.

If you guys need any hardcoded changes, just ask and I'll try to pick them for you. Should be easily possible.

Have you thought about altering any undewhelming mechanics of H3 or you are simply leaving the core game as it is, with only graphics changed?

After a lot of hard work and now mostly independent, new beta version of the betaof the mod will be released this month. Here some info of what new stuff will be added/changed:

- Over 25 Improved Interfaces ( New and improved adventure map view )

- New Border around the map

- Improved Cover of Darkness

- Completely New Creature Portraits

- New Good/Bad Morale Animations

- Few new creatures ( Breeder, Gog, Dragon Fly, New Griffin )

As you see mostly graphics will be changed. I hope there will be someone to offer help with programming as I cannot do it at all. Here are some screens:

Can't believe I haven't seen this before. Amazing job, though I have only just scratched the surface. :hail:
