Hehe, i discovered why I had so much trouble with the forklift puzzle. I thought I had to do what I actually did have to do, but I hadn't patched the game and on faster computers the puzzle was impossible without the patch :).

The hardest game I ever played was Myst, even though we were a couple of guys playing it together, we never managed to finish it. Myst II was equally hard :p

For me, this is a tie between two oustanding Infocom games: Spellbreaker and Zork III.

Zork III was the most difficult game I have ever beaten without outside help. It took about six years, but when the game finally ended I felt a real sense of accomplishment.

With Spellbreaker I tried my best to avoid hints and help but ultimately caved in and checked out the Invisiclues for several puzzles. Now, I really wish that I hadn't, as the happiness I felt in beating the game was diminished.

So, I guess that would make Spellbreaker the most difficult game I have ever played, and Zork III the most difficult game I have ever beaten.

I highly recommend playing both, if you never have, by the way.

Plague zombies are refered to in the trade as "past expiration date zombies"! But some people will use anything.. :disagree:

Unfortunately one quickly manages to understand how to solve the puzzles. It took me about 14 hours to finish Myst, but only 7 for Riven, and 6 for Exile (took me one hour for the last puzzle which I enjoyed a lot). I bought the 4th episode but it crashed my savegame once after I entered the second age, took me about 2 hours for the first one, it crashed about 45 minutes after the beginning of the second. And since it crashed I never launched the game again, technical problems always make games harder to finish.

As for the hardest game I ever played, it's hard to tell. Not that no game is hard enough for me, but I completely forgot the "impossible" games I played.
Excepted maybe for an old game, Karnov. Of course I was young when I played it, but I never managed to get passed the second part of the first level !
Actually most of the arcade games ported to computers are very hard. They're designed to make you lose as much money as possible, and on computer versions they're limited to "three lives, three continues", finishing them with that only is a real challenge.

After a second thought there was also the first Rick Dangerous, the last level was insanely hard.

Probotector on NES and an old text-based swedish game called "stugan".
It can not be beaten.

"- You're in a boat. You're at the middle of a lake. You hear footsteps behind you. Do you wish to plug in your telephone?"

It's insane and damn hard.

Commandos 1 i 2 gave me some good challenge at very hard difficulty and I find them pretty hard. Haven't tried Commandos 3 but I heard it's hard.

Also there was a RPG game called Gorky 17 that had some hard battles and unexpected turn of events that put you in unexpected and usually hard battle :)

Seiken Densetsu III on Super Famicom (SNES). I managed to get to the final boss without finding the objects needed to promote your characters, and the boss was simply unbeatable. :disagree:

Oh, and there was this Batman & Robin game too. Never passed the first level actually, it was damn hard.

When I was 8 years old I NEVER managed to defeat the second boss (the room with turrets) but when I became around 16 I walked through almost the entire game. felt strange to beat something that you were incabapale of half your life ago....

I played Probotector II with a pal though and we made it to the 5th boss (secondlast lvl)

Died and never retried cause it's boring and hard.
