Unread postby Kalah » 14 Jun 2011, 18:25

Today, Ubisoft released a new combat video on youtube. In this video, M&M ComDev Irina Kassina walks and talks us through a typical battle between Stronghold and Sanctuary, giving us a bit of insight into the workings of various units.

It sounds nice. I guess that you should start to loving her voice. :P

She's really good for first time. Not native speaker but that goes without saying.

She's at least a little more understandable than the previous person in her position. I was barely able to make anything out in the first combat vid

Its a little slow-paced for my patience, but it looks good.

Irina did her presentation well.

The combat itself shows that there is more emphasis on creature abilities than raw stats. Will this be for better or worse - remains to be seen.

I completely missed the little icons on the bottom, near the hero portrait, up until this video. They seem to be some sort of favorite/frequently used spells/abilities list. Can anyone confirm? A very welcome feature.

Agreed,
I think (or hope) that the ability part will set the game apart from H5; and others.

Looks better than H5. The creatures have more effects/actions (liveliness). As far as playing better, we'll wait after the next 2 expansion packs.

Does that mean someone can be dumb enough to attack a dead Cyclops?

Oh I guarantee a user would try it. I'm just asking if anyone knows whether the game will let you. A dead Cyclops stack is then a decoy for a human player and it actually matters in-game. Otherwise, it's just weird.

If the best response of another faction against Stronghold is to take the offensive, it's hard to imagine which matchup does not become one big melee slugfast. If so, triggered abilities better be deterministic, not "20% chance" (how will they handle creature luck?!).

A new phrase has been invented: "Kicking a dead cyclops". :D

I have no problem with her English, and congratulate her on her mastery. As a high school teacher here in the states; trust me there are students born here that are more difficult to understand than her.

Okay what happens if you are playing Stronghold and all of your troops are dead, and your last Cyclops was just killed? Now your hero still has a move and with it you kill the last of your opponent’s troops. Who wins? As I recall heroes can’t be left alone, so what happens? It seems to just add a silly complication. :disagree:

It still takes up space on the field. And perhaps it can be regenerated somehow?

I agree, too dumb to die, what does that even mean? Dieing takes brainpower? You think you're dead so you die?
