Actually he didn't say a word about what kind of patch it is and how it works. Something sifferent than Magnomagus' AI mod?

i have tried it and the ai is smarter. The ai dose things it did not do from the orignal.

This is a legit not offical patch. Meaning i hoped it would be a offical pathce but it was not.

Go and enjoy peopele

The sluggish AI is my number 1 complaint about HoMM V, so that sounds great!

So now HoMM5 might be actually a bit more worth installing? I'll give it a shot for curiosity's sake.

Sounds great. Will test it after I play some D III first.

Znorkish used to be harder to read. I'm very disappointed.

I have tried it out and the AI turns are faster, which is a good thing. I haven't encountered enemy heroes yet, so I cannot comment on that. However, my game crashes for no apparent reason at the same spot in the game when I hit the end turn button, so this kills this mod for me and I won't be using it again until this is resolved.

Well ok, the bullet missed you, but give me some credit for squeezing that trigger... that took effort.

The AI patch is currently *not* supported for applications installed on Win7 partitions. It works for some Win7 users though, so please feel free to check it out.

You can try out the AI patch without altering your current Heroes installation. It's simply another binary file that you copy and execute. If it doesn't work on your PC, you can simply return to your official installed version and let the AI mod rest until we have resolved the issue.

Thanks Znork for notifying the community, and thanks Xhane for telling me. :)

Technically, the AI patch was originally written as a potential full replacement for the AI in H6 if it were developed by Nival. This AI mod is a full rewrite of the AI inspired by the spirit of H3 and the chess computer program Fritz that has proven that a computer AI can be a match for world champions. It is meant to give the strategic gameplay of H5 a boost by playing against dedicated AI opponents who know the ropes. This AI does not cheat, on higher difficulty levels the only advantage it has is the lower starting resources for the player.

You can download the AI mod from www.bonddisc.com/ref/H5AI_31.zip (5.9 MB). This zip archive contains a readme with installation instructions.

Included with the AI mod are three new maps (Icy Defense, Island Hoppers and My Home is My Castle) that are intended as a challenge for veteran players.

I hope you enjoy playing Heroes ToE with this AI mod.

This is by no means a closed effort and work to improve the AI further continues. Your comments are welcome.

If this works, I might actually be bothered to finish TotE campaign...

I have installed it and now the campaigns do not work. Meaning it throws me out of the game.

I have added a developer diary to the project website that explains where the project is heading and how it is going to differentiate itself from H6: Heroes 5.5 - Eternal Essence

My hope is that it is an inspiration for Heroes and that H6 and H5 can evolve like brothers who grow up together, so that we can have two strong products that complement each other. H6 will most likely simplify a couple of things to make the gameplay more slick, and with the focus on story and content it should be quite an interesting ride. What we can do with H5 is to be true to its strategy game roots and excel in this area.

We have now a fully stable build that runs under Windows 7 and supports the original ToE campaign.

We have now a new public release 3.1b that adds a choice of AI type (aggressive vs. defensive) for each computer player plus tons of other improvements and fixes. It also includes the option to have the AI start with the same resources as the player for more interesting scenarios on hard and heroic difficulty.

Turn processing on very large maps is substantially faster, and the animations run fluidly now during turn processing. No more sloppy animations, enjoy the beauty of the game!

Check it out!

We have now a stronger build: 3.1c public release (7.8 MB)

It gives you a ton of additional options to customize the game to your liking.

You find more details in the accompanying readme file (included in the .zip).

My recommended setting for a good entertaining game: set Neutral Champions to hard, enable artifact guards and taxes.
