Title Screen Music Evolution!

Unread postby Shyranis » 05 Oct 2009, 23:00

We've gone through the towns, time for various other themes!

Heroes 1
Heroes 2 CD Music
Heroes 2 Midi (Version 1), Version 2
Heroes 3, Heroes 3 expansions that use the same music
WoG (Not canon), for reference only.
Heroes 4
H4 Gathering Storm
H4 Winds of War
Heroes 5
Hammers of Fate
Tribes of the East

Which one just screams "this is a Heroes game" to you?

Remember, just doing title theme music, not the look of the title screens themselves. The screens you see when you load up your game like this one from SiN Episodes or this one from Axis and Allies.

Next week (I hope, if I have the time to get the rest of them up), campaign themes! (Heroes 3 has a ton of them!)

H4 is easily the best, because it's simply a truly beautiful and awe-inspiring piece of music. Brilliant from beginning to end.

Second place goes to H3. Definitely a joyful song with a great epic feeling to it, but it's a bit loud and noisy to my taste.

Third place goes to H5 Hammers of Fate. Much better than the already good original H5 theme. This was a pleasant surprise to me, because I never expected it to be so good. Not to my surprise, however, it is also the only good theme in Hammers of Fate.

Fourth place goes to H5 and the rest of the themes follow it in no order.

The (first) HoMM II midi version for me is representative of the HoMM name and feel. Beautiful and magical and with that half closed tavern door beckoning in the background...Love it!

The second would be the CD version.

HoMM IV and V vanilla + HoF are also very good.

HoMM III music always annoyed the heck out of me for some reason. The fact that I always jumped out of my seat because of the loudness of the music when starting the game might have had something to do with it.

The worst for me are probably WoW and ToE.

For me best is vanilla H3 - RoE. Because I started with it. The second would be "The above mentioned h2 - with mysterious door", "h4 gathering storm" and "h5 Hammers of Fate".

The other H5 titles are alike rip offs from Warhammer. See and compare.

HoMM2 CD. Simply the Best. After I heard it, I hoped 3DO could outdo it in the following series. They could'nt. In fact no game could outdo it.
I really never liked the WoG opening. Too dark and broading.

Heroes 4. It's simply so cool without being epic in a ridiculous way. I'm getting bored with epic chorus songs a la Heroes 5.

I really like Heroes II MIDI, but I can definitely agree that Heroes IV vanilla is probably the best.
Back from the dead? Maybe.

I almost went for H5 vanilla (it might have been a first :p), but they messed up at 2:55. Not sure what that was meant to be, but it sounded like an old LP jumping over a disk scratch.

H4 might have been great, but for too many months I listened to that theme going in a loop (because of a buggy version of H4, I guess before some patch or sth), that I cannot get that out of my mind when I hear it, so I can't really enjoy it.

So I went for H3. I always loved it. For 10 years that music was the sound announcing I'm gonna have a great time, whatever scenario or campaign I'm going to choose. :)

H4 all the way. It's a pity that after installing the expansions, I now have the terrible Winds of War music playing during the briefings of the original campaign.

By following the 6 easy steps I've listed here you can bring back the original main menu and the music. ;)

I feel the same way. The grass theme is my favorite. Little birdies tweet tweet tweet, here we go, it's going to be sweet :D
H2 music somehow would never play on the crappy machine I had at that time except the midi, so that never stuck. H4 vanilla music was good but the game I haven't played much so no special sentiments attached.

You know what I think would be the most optimal game experience?
..The little birdies singing there special song on my special map.... B-) ;)

H4 by far. H3 is good, but for some time I replaced it with this:

Music that I'm referring to starts from 1:30. Youtube quality doesn't pay it proper due, but still.
