Sorry for the extremely late answer: three and a half out of six maps are completed, with work ongoing.
and in which book... when will Nicky Ironfist appears?
Book III :S
1. Will "Tawni's pirates" be a playable faction?
They're already in the first two books...
2. How will ancient looks like? (or their guns will be the modified Dark Elf crossbows)
Don't understand the question, sorry.
3. Will Tarnum the Immortal Hero reappears? and which faction will he join?
If he were to appear, he'd most likely be with the Stronghold faction.

We're all very busy with our real life™, so progress on Book 3 is slow, but it will come out someday. There are still stories to be told... and finished ;)

To be honest, I had originally intended to finish the maps by this month, but a computer crash sent me back to the Dark Ages and now I've got to remake some work. Don't fear, we're still on course for a 2009 release :)

That's all we can tell you for the moment. It will come out, eventually.

I've made quite a bit of progress in the previous month, though working alone with little time to spare will mean a few delays. I'm not nearly as fast and qualified a mapmaker as Marzhin was, sadly. However, the 2009 date still stands :)

Will the portaits be colorized, like in Book 1?
No, they will be like in the screenshots (like Book 2) because neither Jean-Mathias (the artist) or I have the time to make proper colorization.
Do you need help with portraits? I'm more than happy to help you guys with this if you need it. I can pretty easily emulate the artistic style from the previous chapters. I can also remake all the secondary hero portraits so they aren't just duplicates of existing H5 heroes.

If you want to see a sample of my work, here's a sample. PM me if you're interested.

That Mephala looks amazing - I enlisted a friend to colour the portraits we have but he's stuck in studies so I don't know how he's getting along. I've seen your Solmyr and Tawni portraits and would love your skill on board, if you have the time and will, but Marzhin has the last word.

Well I'm not sure we should redo ALL the portraits... It would take a huge amount of time IMO. But if you want to help with the colouring of the portraits, don't hesitate to give it a try.

We're testing now our translation to spanish (books 1 and 2). If you have some material to work on it on the meanwhile, just let me know :-D

Roughly how many portraits of peripheral heroes would you say are in the mod? And how easy or difficult would it be to implement them into LOTA if I did have the time to make them?

I noticed you guys gave Rutger a beard and made him into Sir Christian. Ha ha.

Well, it's eight heroes per faction for the generic non-story based heroes. As for campaign characters... Book 1 is done, Book 2 has nine non-coloured portraits and Book 3 will have (roughly) seventeen unfinished portraits, five of which need to be done from scratch!! It certainly would consume alot of time.

It takes minimal work to put them in the game. Just 128x128 with a black outline and a transparent background in .png or .dds format is all that's needed. (campaign heroes I believe need to be at higher res to be posted on the website.) In fact so far I had more trouble with the non-coloured ones, but I'm a photoshop neophyte after all :)

Of the 5 portraits that need to be done from scratch, maybe I can take a stab at it? Unless the artist is already working on them.

I know there may be concerns with clashing styles or whatever... but regular Heroes 5 also had input from multiple artists, especially in the expansions. :)
