Sadly, the Ubi releases don't support Vista. We have gotten reports that the 64-bit version in particular is problematic.

Let everyone know if the final release of 64-bit sp2 cures the compatibility problem with H-IV. I know of no one who has been able to run it with the current 64-bit vista. Though there has been talk that windows 7 is supposed to be more backwardly compatible when it releases.

This would make me very happy if it works. I can't afford to buy XP again and I certainly won't have the money for Windows 7 either. :(

I tried installing Heroes 3 on Vista (my friend's PC, not mine) with no luck whatsoever.

Well it's not just Vista, as H-IV runs fine on the 32 bit version, but the 64 bit version has issues with several games. Hopefully sp2 will fix it.

Yea I heard that. I really hope SP2 fixes this problem, as Heroes 4 is about the only thing I can't play on my cpu that I'd really like to play.

This is bad news, it seems that windows 7 may be the only near term hope for Heroes IV to run on the new OS's. If that ends up being incompatible then this could be the beginning of the end for H-IV. :S

I dont understand the problem though, like i understand lack of compatibility, but man what did they do to Heroes IV that just makes it the impossible game to run?

Simple solution, get yourself VMWare and download an iso of an XP or any other desired OS. You can even download Windows 7 and install it as a VMWare image and try them out on there to see if you have functionality with the Heroes games.

I am so dumb when it comes to computers, I googled XP iso and found a lot of torrent sites, so I take it this isn't exactly on the up and up?

I'm playing Heroes4 in Ubuntu Linux, using Wine, without problems.

Well, I downloaded SP2 and... and... and... IT WORKS!!!! :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D

Yesssssssss, this makes me so happy. I don't understand why it won't work for others though. After I installed SP2 I uninstalled Heroes 4, and reinstalled it and it worked fine with no problems.
