Hey, I'm wondering how the damage is calculated in Heroes games. How much will +1 attack or +1 defense affect outcome of battle, if armies are equal? Most important stats seem to be damage and health, as when you have 20 attack and 20 defense on hero, those gnolls getting +3 and +5 on top of that makes little difference. Defense is more important than attack, because you can overkill enemy troops, but own casualties will stop conquest.

Slowest creature in army determines movement points? Therefore upgrading slowest troop has more benefit than it first appears. In H3, Conflux and Inferno are fastest towns with 17 speed, Necropolis and Rampart slowest with 15 speed and rest have 16 speed. How much Boots of Speed and Equestian's Gloves increase movement?

15 speed * 1.20 (expert logistics) = 18
16 * 1.20 = 19
17 * 1.20 = 20

Heroes 1:
Each point of Attack over Defense increases damage by 10%.
Each point of Defense over Attack decreases damage by 10%. (broken, yeah. No wonder I don't play H1 anymore).

Heroes 2:
Each point of Attack over Defense increases damage by 10%.
Each point of Defense over Attack decreases damage by 5%.

Heroes 3:
Each point of Attack over Defense increases damage by 5%.
Each point of Defense over Attack decreases damage by 2.5%. (NOT 2% like stated in the manual!!)

There are cap values for each, but I don't remember them right now... I know they're pretty high (around 75% for defense reduction)

Heroes IV:

If the attack has an attack of A, and the defender has a defense of D, then the damage will be multiplied by A/D.

The cap values for Heroes 2 are 30% and 300%. For Heroes 3 they upped the maximum to 400%.

Also in Heroes III, boni are additive.

For example, lucky strike and deathblow on a base attack that would normally deal 200 damage would deal 600 damage then (200 + 200 +200). The tooltip says "double damage" but that's wrong and misleading.
