Causing pain isn't too far removed from enjoying it if they're sadomasos, and if anyone remembers the Mistresses from DK 2, they don't differ much... they remind me of a cross between them and the witch elf.

actually i'm willing to bet that they have the mostly stable roles in those relationships... just look at Max Mosley, and the guy used hookers, who'd let him hurt them for enough money...

And i was still referring to the mechanical aspect of running with something hanging between your feet...

@HenL

Now that's just inefficient...

Raven is a male in H4 so it can get confusing.

Whereas I agree that the heroes in Heroes V are more sexually explicit than in previous Heroes games, which is regrettable, not in and of itself (as I don't have a problem with sex in games that aren't marketed to children), but merely because it's not in keeping with the spirit of Might and Magic, I don't think that Heroes V is sexist. I make this distinction, because I think it's implied in the article, but there are unclad muscly male characters too, like the blade dancers.

Also, on a side note, you don't need to wear a huge suit of armor to be effective in battle. The Greeks, for instance didn't wear much. And even in societies where huge suits of armor were in, it's not like the average soldier could afford them. So, sending people out half naked isn't all that unrealistic.

A lot of what we are seeing here stems from the popular impression of gamers as 'nerds' who turn to fantasy girls because they can't get real women. Ironically, to the extent this is true, it is partly because women have bought into the notion that these so-called nerds are not manly enough to warrant their attention.

(In defense of the skimpy armor, though, let me suggest that it might be **magic** armor and provides good protection even though it is lightweight.)

My friend and I were recently rather shocked to find out just how graphic sex scenes were in an action adventure game called Fahrenheit (US: The Indigo Prophecy). Not that we disapproved necessarily, we were just a bit taken aback.

You say it doesn't work that way, and to me that sounds sexist. It sounds like you think only men care about nudity, and women must be protected from there sexual intentions.

This is exactly the form of sexism that has been plaguing the world since the middles ages.

Heroes V is sexist in that there are barechested male creatures but no barechested female creatures. Maybe... we should sue Ubi so that they will show some big juicy female tits in Heroes VI.

I'm not offended by these female Heroines. I only wished I could look as good!!!! I'd still love the games even if they were stick people. There are some rather hot male heroes in the game for us girls to drool over & even though Godric might not be that handsome, he sure has a sexy voice.

Now, I usually don't mind scantily clad characters if the type of character they are calls for it, such as if they're a succubus, dryad, nymph, or so on. But I expect a knightess to be just as well-armored as her male counterpart, and a necromancer to be clad in the usual super-heavy flowing robes that tastefully muffle the stench of death. Then again, there are dark elves. Oh, how I loathe dark elves, no matter what context they're in. Aside from the ugly bondage gear that insults my maturity and taste, their entire existence creates the unfortunate implications of "Evil = sex, therefore sex = evil." That kind of sends the whole "sex sells" thing into a swan dive now, doesn't it?

Lol. The event of an evil scantily mythic monster being portrayed in a popular PC game as some lame easy-to-kill´s and then getting the discussion of sexual discrimination and market-weaponing is called: Dividing by zero. And what about centaurs and titans? Those things are on a pornographic borderline. I can but imagine the grueling years of University education and lonileness put on the shoulders of the women that designed those things. JESUS CHRIST!

As a dude in my 20's I have to say I really appreciate the sexy Heroes chicks. I'm really glad they dress like sluts!

I mean , come on, its a fantasy game. Its not going for realism. Why not have sexy chicks to look at, instead of well-covered women? Personally I'll vote with my wallet and choose the game with the sluts. Not a big deal -- but just my personal preference, to be honest. Sexy women are just plain better than regular looking women.

The rich greeks used armour, and the reason that greeks that couldn't afford a breastplate (or linothorax) didn't settle for less expensive armour is because they were protected by their large shields.

Also while the members of some cultures went into battle half naked, it's because they either didn't know of body armour, (Mayans and Zulus for example, also the fact that the Incas, Aztecs and Mali (africans, ca. mid 13th to late 15th century) used armour proves that lack knowledge is the reason Mayans and Zulus didn't use it), or they couldn't afford armour and had a different source of protection (both poor greeks and gauls went into battle half naked, both cultures also used large shields and had richer members using armour).

I see no one mentioned so far the Blood Maiden (MAIDEN, people! o.O) whose p**sy shows almost explicitly in the town recruitment scene. Not to mention the hip swaying stripper attitude of all female characters in H5 (even the darn barbarians are sexy now, just check out those moves on the shaman chick @_@) It kinda shocks me every time I hit the dungeon and see those nasty puss-maidens... I'm like ”WOW, they put that in a +12yr rated game”

Yeah, good article. Glad to see some brain cells out on the web. Hey, I'm a guy too, and I don't mind seeing good-looking women in the video games I play either, but it all goes back to the repetitiveness. They're all the same - perfect porportions, huge rack, seductive attitude - and that's when I get tired of it, because it's not realistic. Don't even think about bringing up the 'don't look for realism is a fantasy game' bullcrap, that's just an excuse. The term 'fantasy' defines a setting and an atmosphere a game has, and the game is still full of humans who should represent real humans with some accuracy. I refuse to believe that every important person in the HoMM universe is automatically a female knockout or a male stud.
