<img src="/http://image.com.com/gamespot/images/20 ... _86873.jpg" align=right vspace=10 hspace=10>From GameSpot's Brett Todd (the guy who previously reviewed <a href="/http://www.gamespot.com/xbox360/action/ ... view">Dark Messiah: Elements</a> (3.5/10), <a href="/http://www.gamespot.com/pc/strategy/her ... w">Hammers of Fate</a> (6.4/10) and <a href="/http://www.gamespot.com/pc/strategy/her ... 94">Tribes of the East</a> (5.5/10) comes a <a href="/http://www.gamespot.com/pc/strategy/kin ... rprisingly positive review of King's Bounty: The Legend</a> (thanks RPGWatch). However, the final score (8) remains a bit lower than the current average, partly because of the game's lack of innovation. Here is an excerpt of the article:
<i>"The only real difference between King's Bounty and Heroes of Might and Magic or Disciples is a greater emphasis on role-playing. Story is brought to the fore here in a much more overt way, thanks to a sarcastic sense of humor and a ton of quests to be solved. True, most of these quests have been scooped out of the big bag of RPG cliches (find stolen property, remove a curse, kill the big bad whatever that's plaguing our village, and so on). But many come with multiple parts that force you to venture all over the map to solve them, along with a great deal of personality conveyed through idiosyncratic characters and a lot of text. You can't just skip around like you're filling in blanks; do so and you're liable to get caught not paying attention...So even though these various tasks might not break any new ground, completing them is more involving than the map-clearing busywork that dominates the usual tactical RPG."</i>
Elsewhere, the game gets a <a href="/http://reviews.cnet.com/pc-games/king-s ... re">review on CNET</a> (4/5) and <a href="/http://news.softpedia.com/news/King-039 ... 5.shtml">a patch</a> that brings it to version 1.7. Follow the link for a short changelog.

I use to read that Brett Todd guy on FiringSquad, and I can't stand him. He is such a jerk.

8/10 and 4/5 seems the same too meAngelspit wrote: However, the final score (8) remains a bit lower than the current average, partly because of the game's lack of innovation. Elsewhere, the game gets a review on CNET (4/5)

This is a joke right? The story has to be the crappiest aspect of KB. It's laughable even if I don't consider the translation errors. However the game is worth more than 8/10 in my book because the gameplay/strategy/depth is outstanding.
Infiltrator out.

LOL! The CNET and Gamespot reviews are the exact same thing.
You see, CNET owns Gamespot...

Removed the CNET link (which I added at the last minute). Why didn't they just link to GameSpot?

Gamespot is now a shambling zombie that lost half of their editorial staff following the firing of Jeff Gerstmann. Does a review of a game that is only vaguely connected to M&M really count as news? Oh well, I guess that's because there's nothing else to report...
Back from the dead? Maybe.

It is strongly connected. Also the forum voted heavily in favor of Kings Bounty coverage on this site.Deadguy118 wrote:vaguely connected to M&M

Without wanting to challenge anyone's opinion (tastes are different in the end), I personally feel that KBL has more to do with the MM (or JVC's if u want) universe than DMoMM for example ever had.
Ah, that it doesn't have "MM" in its name. Wth do I care? That's only because Ubi happened to be in the right place, with the right money, to buy the rights. So that would be an argument for a lawyer, but not for me, as a gamer.
Something made me fall in love with H3 9 years ago. That something made me wanna explore the universe even more - so I tried H2 and I loved it as well, and later H4 and I liked it also (though not as much). But Ubi's creations, while using the name, and copying some elements, just don't feel the same (for me!). KBL on the other hand, does not have the name, does not copy so many units & game elements as H5 copied from H3, but still - somehow - it did touch the same sensitive cord that was touched by H3 long ago. I've wasted over 6 months with H5, hoping to eventually get that feeling again... but it only took a couple of days of playing around with the KBL demo to realize that - for my taste - it would have been so much better if 1C/Katauri would have been the ones handling H5 (and whatever other game they would have decided to develop in the franchise).
So, to respond to Deadguy118, yes - this counts very much as news which I would expect CH to post, and I'm really grateful to them for doing so - and not stick only to news related to whatever publisher may currently have the rights on the "MM" name. For that kind of exclusive news, there's the Ubi site/forum I guess (if anyone still goes there...).

And you are serious, right?Zamolxis wrote:... KBL on the other hand, does not have the name, does not copy so many units & game elements as H5 copied from H3...
PS Giving "Hammers..." higher valuation than "Tribes..." is something like totally imbeilic.

Is it just me or do debates on here tend to go round in circles?
Anyway, is this guy anyone worth listening to? It seems questionable.

The more I play KB, the more I have to conclude that, as far as single-player goes, it is as good as Heroes 3. (Blasphemy!) The overland map strategic element is entirely missing, of course -- my favorite thing about Heroes -- but in terms of single-player structure and design, KB is now King.
You can see that Heroes fans designed every atom of KB -- and playtested the stuffing out of it as well, which is just sublime nowadays.
