Help identify

Unread postby Skullmane » 27 Oct 2008, 19:18

I have a rather odd request for the more game-aware people here. I have two images from (probably) two games. I'd like someone to identify from what games (if not, where in general) they come from. Don't ask me why.

I'm almost sure the first one is from D&D, but would like to hear where exactly. And I don't have a clue about the second one.

I guess I could do some nosing around and try to find out myself. But since I'm not very game-experienced (especially older games) I don't really know where to look.

Hmm, that graphic.

No, I don't know the game. But that style looks familiar.

I don't think those are from a game. Those look like they are illustrations of a DnD story. You remember the series with Tasselhoff Burfoot, Raistlain, Caramon, Flint, and Caitlan?

There were 3 trilogies. Margaret Weis was the author. I think it was Time of the Twins, War of the Twins, and Test of the Twins. Those are Dragonlance.

If they are from a game try goggling Dungeons and Dragons black box or gold box. They could be cut scene illustrations from one of those.

Well, the second picture looks like that to me. Not so sure about the first one.

Well, I haven't located anything but here is some nice Dragonlance art from the book series. Haven't located the game box art.

Edit 1 :
I found that second picture. It is indeed from one of the trilogies of books I was taling about. The characters are Tasselhoff Burfoot (a kender, the short one, a thief), Caramon (Raistlan's protective warrior brother), and Crysania. Look in the second row of pictures.

That would be from "Time of the Twins."

Edit 2:

Ok, for the left picture, if you look the left hand side of the picture you can make out the words "The Five Shires." I'm not familiar with any books dealing with that, but I'm sure there are some. It is also set in a DnD campain, but not in Dragonlace (there are no halflings in Dragonlance, only kender.)

The left picture is the cover of "The Orcs of Thar", a D&D gazetteer published in 1988.

GOW is right in that they depict the old core Dragonlance novels authored by Margaret Weiss and Tracey Hickman. However, those paintings/drawings were recycled many times for other Dungeons and Dragons products, games, and etc. So, there's probably not one correct answer.

What's a gazetteer?
I'm on Steam and Xbox Live.
