What difficulty do you use in single-player? (H3)

Unread postby difool » 13 Mar 2006, 00:06

Idle thought...what difficulty do you use in H3 when playing against the AI?
[i.e. no multiplayer]

I myself typically use Impossible, tho if the starting conditions are hard
(i.e. few loose gold and resources) I'll give myself 5000 gold and 2 of each
resource and then start on Impossible.

I play at Hard. I've tried Expert a couple of times, but Hard allows a faster game.
I'm on Steam and Xbox Live.

Nucleon plays at Expert...but he likes the trick about giving yourself a minimum of ressources to benefit from the best possible AI afterwards... He shall give it a try soon.

I vote Hard. It's all about the fun-factor IMHO. Hard provides plenty of fun without requiring too much brain power. I could probably win consistently on Expert, but then I'd have to think too much. I do enough thinking at my job; I like to shut my brain off when I go home.

FWIW, H3's Hard is comparable to H2's Normal, which is my difficulty level of choice for that game.

Depends on the map, but Expert or Impossible is the norm.

voted normal

I seems to never get used to higher levels, the A.I in normal is good enough to me but sometimes I change to expert to spice things up a bit.

Voted hard

I always take the middle road(thanks to thief for teaching me this).Although I did play most campaigns and some maps on imposible,I find hard to suit me the best.

Generally i play on impossible. Exceptions are story oriented maps which have been made above average difficult. I find it hard to follow the story if progressing is slow and every minor step/battle requires special attention.

Recently, when playing only for fun I have added the rules of: play a map with no knowledge about its layout, no optimization by restart, no saving/loading except autosave load in very extreme situations and no chains longer than 2 heroes. AI beats sometimes very hard, but that is part of the fun. :)

Hard. I find that this difficulty offers the most balance between fun and challenge.

Impossible. When I started winning consistently on expert, I knew it was time to move up. Impossible offers some challenge.

I don't usually look at the diff setting. If i lose than I might go to a lower one.

Impossible.

The AI is playing here best as it ever could ;)

"...no saving/loading except autosave load in very extreme situations..." - Yes! Real game feeling ;)

I'm kinda a "not-so-good" player and in H3 the AI is sometimes very aggresive. Sometimes I play Hard but usually Normal. :)

I always choose impossible for random maps.
On user made maps it's expert or impossible.

Impossible. I am so used to it already that I might get insecure about tactics when I suddenly have extra money (like when I happen to play on expert).

vote: Hard

for economical /financial/ reasons
I hate waiting long to collect enough money to develope my empire. I prefer quick expansion and conquering so need resources.

I've played Expert very rare, but have to admit that very careful planning gives lots of satisfaction.
I'll have to test the impossible, but perhaps on them ap with lots resources to prevent me from too quick giving up with slow developments...

Usually I play on Hard difficulty, although I'm beginning to play on Expert more often.
