Heroes 3: Favorite Necromancer

Unread postby UndeadHalfOrc » 11 Jun 2008, 04:07

Anybody else finds it interesting that in Heroes 2 all Necros started with Haste but it doesn't show in any of their spellbooks in H3. (Straker the Death Knight, the zombie specialist, has it though)

I vote for Aislinn. Meteor Shower is just hands down the best all around damage spell in the game and it's nice to be guaranteed to have it.

Decided to go with Sandro and his Sorcery specialty. I have to admit that Aislinn's Meteor Shower is a great beginning spell & specialty but I just like Sandro better. :D

Even though I like Death Knights better, picks are still pretty good here.
Thant gets my vote, but Aislinn and Vidomina aren't worse.
Septienna's special is useful early on, and she can pick up Meteor Shower from Aislinn (and Animate Dead from Thant). On larger maps she's not really worthy of the main hero position.
Nagash gets dough and more Animate Deads per battle (Intelligence). Neat.
Xsi specializes in a spell I don't normally use with Necropolis, and wastes a secondary slot on Learning.
Nimbus loses by default.
Sandro is made obsolete by Aislinn.

Agree with BigThing except that Thant doesn't get my vote.
What's best depends on too many details. While Vidomina is cool, starting with one advanced skill on a magic hero is a bit too risky in my opinion. The dreaded Eagle Eye or Mysticism pick. :) Both Aislinn and Nagash are good

Since Aislinn looks kinda cool as well he gets my vote.

Sandro. Just because it's Sandro.

Had it been "best", then Aislinn on smaller maps and Vidomina on larger. Thant is also interesting on smaller maps, but Mysticism is somewhat of a gamble. Had that skill actually done something more useful, he'd been the one.

Although I voted for Aislinn, I admit Sandro will easily outdamage her with his special, if he manages to get Meteor Shower himself.

Thant. Getting guaranteed animate dead is very important in my opinion and starting with it is definitely great, allowing for slightly faster expansion. The choice would be even clearer if he didn't waste a skill slot on shitty mysticism. Of course Thant is shadowed by most other necros IF the mage guild gives this spell. Still, I think there's definite advantage in having the spell right off the bat.

Aislinn would be another good choice, and Nagash too. These have been explained. Sandro is of course the coolest, but I don't like playing him too much. Sorcery just isn't powerful enough. I don't like Vidomina's looks, so she's out.

Thant for me but I refrain from using him as even with mysticism he is still very good at his job:)

Voted Sandro because of being the most ambicious of the nigromants and more important. Vidomina in second place because of her speciality.

Nagash is a guy. Look in the editor at his default gender. And he uses the death knight sprite in-battle (for males) :)

Voted Nagash, for the name and the portrait. I never played Warhammer (preferred WH40K), but most of my schoolmates did.

There's that many good Death Knights and Necromancers, often I'll start with Septienna and get my main hero from the Tavern.
