Wow, it's so slow. I never seen anything so slow before.
(If I cannot count our IT support databases in the time of overload)

But really this is something, we could win award for slowest forum and beat by a mile forums which are hosted on home computers... hrmm...

I've begun to view these slowdowns as part of the furniture, as it were. Image

A'ight, we've had our tame programmer do a bit of work, and here's what he came up with:
protecyon wrote:The problem is apparently due to the number of simultaneous accesses that have been occurring, which have resulted in the server forming a large backlog. Eventually the server began to just drop requests which on your side would appear as a hanging page which eventually timed out. To remedy the situation we have increased the cache size for the database, which should allow the database to store commonly accessed items thus freeing up the processor and memory to deal more effectively with the requests. We have also increased the limit for the number of requests, and files that are allowed to be open before the server begins dropping them.

In the next few days please keep an eye out on whether these changes have resulted in any improvements, and post your impressions in this thread.

Thank you,

Protecyon
What he said.

According to Protecyon's analysis of the problem, it seems that the most obvious solution is that instead of the server trying to process all the accesses at once, that a program is written to grade the access requests as a function of the importance of the person doing the requesting. As a result, people like me, who have the highest importance, would then get through with no waiting at all, and people like TT, who nobody cares about and who have nothing really intelligent to say anyway, would have to wait a few hours until the important people are done posting. This of course would only be a problem for people like TT, but since such people have very little importance, it's not really a problem for anyone else, right? Server problem solved.

At this moment it does not appears to be of any effect. :disagree:
(time of loading the pages are going to be in two ciphers at least, average load is ok. > mysql or someone is working with the site on the background)

Please note that the server is located in the United States (OMG, another political thread!!!11), so delays can happen across the ocean.

Yes, you really should consider censoring such crude language so that any delicate sensibilities are not offended.
