MM7Rev4modR1 a mod for might and magic 7

The MM7Rev4modR1 provides a modified game sequence for the original Might and Magic VII gaming world.
About 30% of the game ‘events’ code has been altered and about 50% of the game map areas have been
modified in some way or another.
The mod is completely changed with new quests. You can also come back to Emerald Island which is also a new feature.

A few graphic ‘enhancements’ have been contributed by the ‘modder’
Pascal by way of custom weapons and armor.

This project represents about 2 months of experimentation/learning/doing/reprogramming and about one
month of Beta testing. The project began on-or-about 5Oct2007 and is finally ready for release to
the public at-large as of 18Jan2008.

To play the modified game, you’ll need to replace your EVENTS.LOD, GAMES.LOD, and ICONS.LOD files with
those contained in this download .ZIP package, delete the new.lod file, and start a new game. These
files are in the DATA folder of the game install directory.

There are definitely some new ‘surprises’ here for the MM7 veterans!

You will get
- Enhanced Graphical User Interface and sprites;
- New Gameplay (get Back to Emerald Island, enhanced enemy locations, New NPC locations, teleportal hubs and new quests like Courier Guild, Alliance quest and The Wonka Quest).

First, its great for me to see that such game could be modified. Trough long time i was unable to find any mod for MM. Major question is: what are possibilities of changes from exist tools? I mean its possible to replace one element by other or add something brand new? Or do is possible mapmaking? Tell me tools which you used. I want to try in modify such game (especially mm8)

Anyway your mod look great, it must be fun with that spider boss.

Thank you!

You cant add new quests.. however its possible to replace one element by another one.

You can edit the events! Like teleports.. spawn points of creatures.. quests etc..

If there is sufficient interest in playing this mod from the MM community..
We will make a brand new MM-series game based upon the MM8 game engine. However if there is no interest in this mod, than it will be our ‘swan song’ to the MM community.

Remarks, comments, bug reports, and assistance may be reported/obtained using the Blog area of this

It is posible to change the graphics of Might and Magic 7 and 8.
However we still have to tackle the .HWL files problem.

If we know how to use the .HWL files we can change the sprites and bitmaps of the graphics.
(New monsters and New textures)

(Just replaced the mm7 .HWL files with the mm8 .HWL files)

BDJ has made a little .PDF file about creature sprite sets in MM7..
Maybe you would like to see it.

This is all very exciting, unfortunately I am tied up time wise to do extensive playing right now, but I will download it for later. What I find intriguing is the possibility for the rest of use to do our own mods, especially since the H-V editor and game is not suited for RPG maps, this may hold possibilities in keeping some of us interested. Could you package your tools into a creator’s package for the rest of us to use. Now I am not talking about you duplicating anything that would violate any copyrights. If we need to buy a program to run these tools that’s understandable. Being able to change the quests and the story along with creature positions and spawning points gives map makers a lot of possibilities.

"Unfortunately adding and implementing a quest is really a multi-faceted task involving the application of about 1/8 of the event langauge instructions and the ability to control QuestBits, NPCs, creatures, spawn points, event reloads, hostilities, items and both global and local events. The knowledge-base required to do this involves several months of intense preparation, learning, and trial-and-error experimentation until one gets it right"

It really requires a 'programmer' to have sucess with this langauage due to all of the anomolies and 'gotchas' of the event interpreter.

If you still think this is something for you ask BDJ at this blog..

That's a shame, but there may be several around who have the talents necessary.

Well, i think that you can actualy start making a fresh new MM game. Several of these projects started of great, but they lack the time and/or skill to make a final game, they came no further than a demo where you can do nothing.
So if determent, i can say you really can start of in beginning a new MM game :)

BDJ wrote this.. :|

It's sad to see this 'grand experiment' come to an end and to fail so miserably. Amonst other things, I did have hopes that this mod would be instrumental
at 'reviving' interest in the MM gaming universe. Unfortunately, it appears that my Beta test team (consisting of 19 people) had more players than the
MM community worldwide. How sad. Well at least what's left of the community still has memories of a once great gaming series.
My 'hopes' and aspirations of developing a new and unique MM game have disappeared, together with the desire to do so. It's now time that this old
applications programmer move on to a more 'fruitful' venture.

I will leave this mod up on this site for anyone who might get want to play a 'differnt kind of' MM modification. However, my support of this
mod is now terminated. So play at your own discretion and at your own risk.
