Back in Tromsø. No snow, but a crisp wind and a few degrees below freezing. Me likes it.

Jeremy: "Of course, the real disappointment was that you didn't fall through the ice. Do you know how thick it is?"
James: "About... four feet?"
Jeremy: "No, it's about five inches."
James: "... you're kidding."
Jeremy: "No, it's about five inches."

The funny thing is the memory of the guy on the news yesterday saying yes, all went to hell last year, with power outages and general chaos, but this year they were prepared. ... cue total chaos and power outages this year too.

Bloody southern pansies, a light coating of snow and their society falls apart.

Happens up 'ere too, don't forget. But yes, the big cities are the ones who experience the most trouble, usually because the contingencies aren't always as good as they should be. Meaning that when things fall apart because of all the snow (which can't be helped), it takes a long time before it is fixed.

Takes a whole lot more to make a news story of it depending on where it happens.

Of course it can, just don't build stuff that is only meant to function in summerly weather.
