You can quote me if you want, everyone can. But changing what I wrote and than quoting as my post, with my name before it, it shows me that you are like most romanians, an unserious two-face.
You don't really understand what 2-faced means, do you? I'm pretty sure that was right to your face.... B-)

Funny. I wasn't the one who started to quote the other. Anyway this discussion turned to childish, and above it it's much off-topic, it's over from my side.

My final verdict is that H5 is a good game for the "newcomers" who have no single idea about the HoMM series. Apparently, it is also a good game for some of the old fans, but I think I'm done with it. Yep, that's it. H5 no longer interests me.

I'd rather play H3 instead of H5. I couldn't care less about the "better balance", the "better skill system" and whatever you think is better in H5. The gameplay is pretty much the same, anyway.

As for H5's graphics, I'll tell you what, I wasn't a big fan of H4's graphics (still not a huge fan), but after seeing H5's graphics, I appreciate H4's graphics more.

So what's better in H3 then? Only think I see is Map/Campaign Editor and bigger maps. And factions were propably better creature-wise, but I'd take H5's much superior skill and race abilities over them anyday which frankly make the factions seem far more unique than in any other Heroes games.

And don't come with "H3 had better AI", it was still crap that could beat only newbies on equal terms. It is indeed pity that for single player games, AI has been rather on weak side ever since H2 (where it was ok only because gameplay/tactics were so simplish).

yes... though one might call insulting a whole nation of people something else then childish...

I don't really see, what's that bad in H5(beside the editor), but understand why so many people didn't like H4. I've given H4 a chace and I found that can be enjoying. But I liked H5, from the first moments. And with TotE it got a stable game for me. As much as I care for graphics, both H4, and H5 satisfied me.

As final verdic I would say, that anyone has the right to like or to dislike anything, so for one who's unsure I would say to try the Demo, and if the one hasn't decided even after that, I would say to give it a shot, 'cos he might just like it.

For me honesty and honor are important things, so that change was insulting in my point of view. But it's past and I care for it no more.

You see, the problem is the gameplay still feels like H3. It's like H3 with brand new creatures (with new abilities) and a couple of new features here and there. Besides, I never said H5 was a bad game, I simply don't care about the new features. The pacing, the flow and the simpler graphics of H3 are better for me. And I don't usually judge games by their A.I., so it's the least of my concerns.

If you read my post carefully, you would see that I never said H5 was a bad game. On the contrary, it's a good game in its own right. I just don't care about the new features. TotE is what H5 should have been in the first place.

On my system with 1Gig Ram the game ran smoothly. I think a good video card makes a lot of difference since the game is much more graphically intense than previous incarnataions.

Though H3 was a pretty good step up, if only because it reduced the occurrence of an AI hero spending 2 weeks just boarding and debarking from a ship. :)

Overall, from the single-player perspective, H5 is worth it. The original game was similar to H3 in many ways, and the expansions added some H4 features (caravans, for example). With the last expansion, we even have a town that just plain can't use magic and where it's counterproductive for your melee units to wait. There's enough new things when you factor in the expansions to make it interesting, while they didn't screw up the basic Heroes gameplay.
Far too many people speak their minds without first verifying the quality of their source material.

It sounds like TotE is the game many people were hoping for at the release of H5. Congrats to UBIVAL for that.

While I admit that I don't have TotE I understand that TotE doesn't have any real AI improvements ; the map editor still isn't user friendly ; the video [possibly other things?] engine still isn't optimized well ; etc.

These are really my only disappointments with H5 though ....

Hopefully H6 will improve upon these problems ....

I just finished (late I know) the Original Heroes V campaigns, and I can say I liked it a lot... And AFAIK the two expansions are even better.

I liked the game in general, not (just) the campaigns...
Well the last campaign was a bit (a lot?) weird, (SPOILER) don't know where all those heroes went at the end and how the Q escaped from them...

Actually finnish review of original Heroes 5 in Pelit magazine said something along the lines "Story of campaigns is functional fantasy stuff and it is carried along with cutscenes made by game engine. Characters' voice acting is pleasant."

No praises but no negative words either. Actually I did enjoy the little story/plot in all of its simplicity until I read in the forums how bad it sucked and started to keep track of things. Stupid whiners spoils things for us decent people. ;)

Actually I guess it was the new Heroes and the somewhat interesting campaign maps I enjoyed most about them, with lots of variety and scripting in missions that hasn't been there for earlier versions of the game. Though I must say it still pales in comparison with Trapped Inside the Beast and other player made rpg/adventure maps/campaigns for Heroes 4.

Oh, no, I haven't said, that you said that H5 is a bad game. It only seemed that you don't like it, or you like H3 better. That can be understood. H3 is an excelent game, it's so good actually that it has a slogan like "just one more turn". It made me dependant, and I think I'm not alone. But I do like innovations, and I'm open to new things.
If H3 is the proud and popular father, and H4 the Wayward son, than H5 is that son from whom everybody expected to be as H3 or even better.
My point was in that post that it's sad in some way, that some old Heroes players and mapmakers dislike Heroes 5 just because he didn't met the standards of H3, and the saddest would be if a player who played the series from the begining wouldn't like H5 just because its graphics.

wow! you guys have big RAM's i have 504mb and TotE runs wayyy smoother than H5 vanilla and HoF. i have no eyecandies and the lowest graphics but then i put it on the best stuff, but didn't notice the difference except the gameplay was rough. maybe that's cause of a non-original TotE. i suggest you get TotE and have fun playin H5 :D

TotE expansion's campaign is 10x better than the original, and HoF. There's 10x more voice acting everywhere (and decent), they actually have custom animations for the cinematics (not just "everyone casts Bless when it's their turn to talk"), and their mouths actually move (OMFG). The maps are 10x better as well, with tons more unique events and objectives.

And of course all the refinements that comes from the original having been out for 2 years. Including new Necro system, etc. Too bad Elemental Chain is still the retard -er I mean retail- version, rather than the 133t strategist beta version. Sadly it can't be modded back to beta version, alas.

I came to H5 from H2, and I love Nival's work. The gameplay feels classic with lots new abilities, creatures, towns, and heroes. That's all I really want in terms of gameplay improvement. And the art/graphics aspect is amazing. It's like the jump from Starcraft to SC2. Not only is it 3D, it keeps the faery tale feel of the H2 graphics, but with good artists behind the scenes. Face it, old HoMM art was homely at best, fugly-AD&D-basementbrew at worst. I'm not even talking about graphics quality; I'm talking about the skill of the artists. I can draw/design better than that when I was a teenager. Srsly. But Nival artists are professional grade.
