MMVII Bounty Hunting

Unread postby Lyanne » 18 Nov 2007, 20:39

I have played all the MM games many times, but each time I try to
do things differently, and usually I manage to uncover things in the
games that I never noticed or experienced before. I am currently
playing a "Duo" game with a Goblin Sorcerer and a Goblin Cleric
(bizarre, I know, but that's sort of the idea...). In the past, I have
only done the routine required bounty hunting, but this time I set
it up with a bounty on a blue dragon in both Harmondale and Steadwick early in the game before I went off to Tatalia to slay Wromthrax. On
my return I was able to collect both bounties for a cool 18,000 in gold,
and I can only assume if I had the patience, I could have set up the
same bounty in Pierpont as well. Of course I don't have access to
Celeste or the Pit yet, but a triple dragon bounty early in the game
when funds are short isn't bad. Just a fun little tidbit I thought I
would share...

Did it work? If Wromthrax has a different game tag in the engine that a typical blue dragon this bounty would have failed to recognize that you had accomplished the task.

PS: if you want to try and discover new things, try these;
* In the Deja desert (MM7) if you work your way up the west end of the map where that strange castle with the skull entrance is at. There is a tall set of mountains separating the castle and a small village to the north (where the obolisk for this world is.) If you climp to the top of these mountains, there is a chest hidden up there.
* In elven forest realm just outside of Castle Navan (MM7) if you go around the mountain (instead of up the path) that separates the village from the attacking trees. There is a chest on the back side of that mountain full of nice goodies including a potion of pure might, a philosophers stone and a diamond. There is even a random test-fire on the way to get a try at some extra skill points. If you go around the mountain counter-clockwise you do not even have to deal with any of the menacing trees in the area.

Yes, it worked perfectly. I had my doubts when I set it up. As you say,
I wasn't sure the game would recognize Wromthrax as a blue dragon,
but it did (and he certainly is - lol). I had noticed previously that the
Goblin Leader of the invasion was recognized as a Goblin Lord when I
had that bounty, even though he isn't called that. so apparently the
game makes the connection. Cool, huh?!

Thanks for your other tips, too. :-)

Good to hear that it works for bounty hunting purposes. Bounty hunting is one of my favorite quests from MM7 & MM8.

Yea, Deja seems to have 2 chests hidden in 3 of the four corners of this realm but I have not found anything in the 4th corner other than the alter. I wonder if they did not put in any chests in this corner for the same reason why they did not put any encounters in this corner either.

Speaking about bounty hunting, it's funny that in MM8 the guild sometimes sends the player to kill a Boulder or Peasant. I'll just mention that all of so called Boulders carry the same name, no matter the size. And almost all of the present playable races in MM8 have their own Peasant - human, elf, minotaur, troll, whatever, all carry the same name. Now go figure out. :D

Has anyone ever managed to collect a bounty for a Peasant in MM7 or MM8?

There are so many different kind of peasants that's it's impossible to know what kind the town hall wants.

Yes, I did notice that about the Boulders in MM8. I had a boulder
bounty once, and dispatched several Boulders of various size, but
it didn't grant me the bounty, so I guess I didn't get the one they
wanted. Very confusing! As for the peasants, I have never accepted
a bounty quest for them, as it seems wrong to harm such helpless
creatures. But that's just me...I don't like killing the Dire Wolves or
the Unicorns, either, and if I have a Dragon in my party, Dragons are
definitely off-limits. I remember one game I played where I literally
tried to kill as little as possible. Kind of fun to indulge my
tender-heartedness for a change. ;-)

Well, when you hit him, it is said that you hit blue dragon not that you hit Wromthrax. I don't remember about Megadragon (afer all it is red dragon model).

I remember that in MM6 you too can collect bounties in New Sorpigal or Mist. Did anyone try to deafeat ex. Lurch (minotaur in Kriegspire) or Ethric and collect reward for minotaur or lich? I theory it should work but I am never tried this.
Hmm... maybe try get reward for peasant and go to fight with Q? I should be interesting experiment...

Hmmm...now that you mention it, I seem to recall fullfilling a Lich
bounty hunt by killing Ethric. It was several years ago, so I can't
be sure, but I think that was the case. That's a great idea about
getting a peasant bounty by going after Q. He's the only "peasant"
that I would consider it a pleasure to dispose of, as well as a worthy
challenge. Next time I play MM6, I'm going to try that. :-)

You have fun with that. Here's my thumbs up of approval just for the sake of it
