TotE C1M4 Beasts and Bones - Finding the Orc Leader

Unread postby maltz » 26 Oct 2007, 16:20

Hello:
I wonder where should Arantir go to find the Orc leader as a primary objective? When I approach the Stronghold town, the game tells me not to attack it. Thanks.

This is one point where I felt the objectives were really unclear.

You will find the proper town later in the mission.

Oh all right.
Can I flag the yellow players' buildings? :D

Hm... when I saw the yellow town last night I had another question in mind.
I really think Arantir has a chance to take it down...

I know the garrison is insane, but I have all the spells and artifacts for it. With unlimited Frenzy and Puppet Master here and there I can let them kill each other inside the town.

But I am not sure whether it will lead to mission failure (like a friendly army or orc leader failed to show up). Any thoughts? Thanks.

I flagged some yellow mines, and I don't think that it will end the mission if you can take down the castle.

When I did that map, I ignored yellow and ended up finishing the mission pretty quickly with much of the map unexplored. I wondered if that kept me from getting some combo artifacts that would've carried over...

I flagged all of Yellow's mines, and even the creature dwellings. They only had one hero, and once he was defeated they didn't do anything.
Good luck taking on the Yellow Stronghold!
The Orcs you're looking to meet up with is the Blue player, and it doesn't matter whether or not you use Arantir.

All right thanks for the help. I will try it out.
My plan is to:

1. Mass Confusion
2. Mass Slow
3. Frenzy on the most powerful stack
4. Puppet Master whoever comes out and send them back killing.
5. Summon Avatar & Phoenix to clean out the rest

Should be doable. :-D

This is a little embarrassing, but where do you put replays so that you can view them? I wanted to see how people managed to take on the insanely powerful Yellow Stronghold, but can't find the right folder. Do I have to make one like I did for Maps?

Rumor has it that if you save a replay in the game it will create the correct folder.

Once you've done that, and you put the internet file into that folder, then you can select to watch it from the main menu.

@PhoenixReborn: Thanks for that. I saved a replay of Arantir thrashing some silly peasants and the folder appeared automatically. It didn't occur to me to check the profiles...
@spamm_ru: Congrats on managing to beat that army. It looked a bit worrying when the Cyclops got out from the castle walls, but I knew you'd win (otherwise why would you've put the replay up?). What skills did you give Arantir? I'm finding that my skill set doesn't seem to be working as well for the final mission (though fighting enemies with larger armies doesn't help...)
@Maltz: If your battleplan works, could you please place a link for others to see? It'd be interesting to compare people's methods for dealing with the same problem.

EDIT: It would probably help if I actually say what skills I gave Arantir for the final mission:
Expert Necromancy: Mark of the Necromancer, Eternal Servitude
Expert Dark Magic: All 3 Masters
Expert Summoning Magic: Master of Conjuration, Fire Warriors
Expert Attack: Archery, Battle Frenzy, Power of Speed
Advanced Enlightenment: Intelligence, Graduate
Basic Sorcery
(I was just short of Level 25 on the 4th mission.)

Done! It was some time in week 2 or 3... army size doesn't make a difference.

I guess the Stronghold hero has some shatter Dark (magic) skill, so the Confusion skill does not really work. So we still have to take retaliation. Frenzy also only affects 1 action instead of 2 (Expert Level Dark).

Simply put frenzy on the Cyclops so they will kill everything else for you. Then comes the difficult part - you have nothing else to kill it. :D This is my setup:
