Corribus wrote: I repeat: I doubt they would ever turn the game into an RTS game. I said RTS elements. Their goal is going to be to shake things up. Adding some RTS elements would certainly do that. I expect you may also see a return of some features from H4, like possibly heroes on the battlefield. All speculation on my part, of course, but I can assure you that H6 will be quite different from H5, and probably any HoMM game before it. Mark me.
I believe you on the real time thing, now I have vehemently stated in other threads that as owner of the franchise UBI is ultimately responsible for anything that is wrong with H5. Several people have expressed the desire that UBI allow Nival to develop the game they want thereby giving us a better game, H6 hopefully. I am curious why some people say that UBI has interfered as opposed to Nival just being incompetent. The fact they have done other games well does not necessarily mean they can do a Heroes game well.

I understood your point Corribus - RTS elements would be great, if done properly. Heroes would not be the same at all if it were not TBS, so I doubt Nival would shoot itself in the foot by going down that path.

Besides there are enough RTS games, while TBS is sadly lacking.

WRONG. The world is Ubisoft's idea, and DM was made by Arkane, not Nival.

I'm a lot older than you, and to be honest I am beginning to feel the same way. That my time gaming is coming to an end. It may well be that H-V is a great game, but my expectations are so high that no game will meet them. The editor in H-V has certainly excluded my participation in that aspect of the game, and to be honest once I’ve played the manufacture’s campaigns there is not much else in it for me. In H-IV there were several wonderful user made campaigns. In H-V the editor finally has a campaign ability, thank you UBI for that. However the editor is still far too difficult to fight with and the campaign editor has a few ridiculous restrictions (ex. number of carryover heroes limited to 4????). So unless something happens either with Tribes or a complete redo with H-VI, I am afraid I may be outta here in the not too distant future.

I have felt that way too, because, to me, Heroes V was such a big disappointment. Was it the quality of the game or have I been playing for too long? Anyhow, I do find myself doing other things more now that the original thrill of playing computer games has worn off significantly. ;|

Just a side-effect of getting older I suppose. I used to really enjoy videogames but it keeps getting harder and harder to rationlize spending 3 hours a day playing one. And since time is scarce, I feel even more irratated/guilty that I've wasted my time on a sub-par product. So it's easy to understand why you feel like giving up on the series.

I wouldn't describe it as liking video games less... more like feeling more guilty about liking video games the same. I rarely have time to play in chunks of more than an hour or so, unless the wife's away :) , and even if I do, I feel guilty for having blown a day without doing something productive. Man I hate being an adult. :(

On Nival and Heroes

Unread postby Moragauth » 22 Jun 2007, 16:39

In spite of all its bugs, I do not think the game's quality is low (although its plot is dumb). Now that Nival is beginning to polish it it's starting to shine through. It'll be of interest to see how HoMM VI is handled.

Well of course it's not low... there are plenty of atrocious games out there, making H5 only mediocre.

Oh, come on, stop this miserable self-pity, you old farts. I'm easily the oldest here and still enjoy gaming a lot - and the wife does as well which makes things probably a lot easier.
Still, it seems to be a question of doing other things as well beside gaming.

Good to know Nival is making H6. I like H5 the best, mostly because of what Nival changed (like Dungeon's faction line-up, etc)
