Fable

Unread postby Orfinn » 01 Jun 2006, 18:11

Anyone played the game from Lionhead studios created by Peter Molyneux, the man behind Black and White? I have and its a marvelous game BUT! It could have been so much more. It got amputated thanks to pressure from Microsoft and the hyped fans, PM promised more content in the game than possible, the fans got disappointed but still the sales skyrocketed none the less and its still a good but not perfect game.
And theres this Fable 2 thats on its way both to Xbox 360 and the PC, and this time PM keeps his mouth shut, giving away detailed info about a game in progress was his mistake with Fable and he wont let that happen again. So now we may enjoy Fable 2 as Fable (or previously called Project Ego) as it should have been.

Theres little info avaiable on Fable 2 but heres a teaser

http://www.fable2.com/ (download the HD version to get the full impression)

Notice the red flag/banner in the small town above one of the houses, set the video on pause and look close, what do you see? :D

Thats right the griffin symbol from Heroes 5!

I have a feeling that Fable 2 will be along with the other major RPG's out there, Oblivion and Dark Messiah. I mean Fable has even now as old as it is, a very unique feature where you can shape you hero almost as you want him. In Fable 2 you will start out either as a girl or boy, depending on you he will also get a puppy at the start that will evolve as you hero does. Be a mean bastard and train your dog into a hellhound of dimensions  or to a lovely dog protecting and help his master in his adventures

The game may ship either now to christmas or to christmas next year, its important that they dont rush this game as they did with the prequel or this will just be another shrinked RPG game without freedom in the land of Albion...

At least Im very exited about this game, I will even buy an 360 to play it, yup Im a heretic  or in fact I enjoy playing both on xbox and PC they have both strenghts and weaknesses ;)
And I love playing my hero with this mohawk hairstyle, with a huge two handed hammer bashing it out on bandits and balverines alike. And yeah Im playing good mostly, so my hair gets blond and the skin get tanned which is not the philosohy PM talked about when he mentioned tanning :D And I have two houses for rent and I live in a third house in Oakvale with my wife, married. But darn she gets angry if I dont visit her in a couple of days 8|
I also wear the gray/neutral plate mail which looks awesome. I have this normal beard and balverine tatto and only one scar over my right eye. And smashing rock trolls with my hammer is one of my favorite sports along with the fighting clubs in the different towns :devious:

I've been trying to find a bargain for this game, unsuccessfully. It's $40 here in retail stores and the prices rise fairly quickly on the eBay auctions. Perhaps later this year, once I have finished Heroes V.
I'm on Steam and Xbox Live.

Game looks interesting, of course, but really a game like this is destined to fail because, as you already mentioned, it cannot hope to have everything promised in the game. Fable is all about doing anything you want but ultimatly that really cannot be accomplished in a game(hoping that Spore will change my mind though.)

Ive played it on xbox and I thought the game kicked A$$ but it was very suprisingly short. I think that the game could have been alot better if it was longer, but you know what can you do, I am not a video game designer....... ;| yet

I played and beat the game like 5 time a couple really evil a couple really good and one just doing what i would do

Fable or Project Ego was up to match Morrowind for example but since the game was so overhyped and that Lionhead got a ton of pressure, no wonder why the game got so short and tight. Still I enjoy it, have ordered Fable The Lost Chapter now to the PC. Finally I can visit the northern wastes and meet those white balverines :-D (some sort of werewolf like lizards)

Theres not many classic creatures in Fable like in other RPG's and thats great, its that which makes such a game unique and not using orcs, elves, goblins etc all the time.

Fable TLC dosent require much horsepower from your computer either and the graphics looks great even nowtodays. Gonna take some screenies of my hero soon. They who have, will could post their hero pics here, just remember to edit the pics and save them as jpeg, jpg first since the screenies as set to be taken as bmp.

For those who dont know the difference between the original Fable and Fable TLC. TLC has alot more content added, and expands the story after you have killed Jack of Blades.Oh and Fable shows plenty british humour and wacky sentences, the game has its charm thats for sure ;)

*BUMP* :D

I started playing Fable TLC for the Xbox today...got it for under $14. :)

I'm just getting out of the Hero's Guild now, so I've a world of adventure to explore. ;)

I bought my Xbox solely to play Fable. Absoluetley loved it. Never bought the Lost Chapters though, so I may do that tomorrow. I can't wait for Fable 2. As stated elsewhere, I got my 360 for Mass Effect, Bioshock, and Fable 2. Wait, maybe Mass Effect and Fable 2 were bonsuses. Eh, whatever.

Glad to see you followed my advice Fate. I figured you'd like it. Oh, and Monster Madness isn't that bad after all. Takes some time to get used to and after that, it's very fun. Try renting it if you get the chance.

I played the game late last year. I completed the main part but got bored with the Lost Chapters (because of the repetitive combat mostly). It was a fun ride, with very interesting side quests and extras (the titles, the dress-up, the boasting were nice littles touches), but it lacked the dept of other games. But I can't remember the last time I laughed while playing a RPG, so it's a good sign.

@Talin_Trollbane:

Really? I only have the Xbox360 version, so I don't know if it's ruined or not. :)

I liked it...even though the replayability could've been better.

As for your question...the answer is:

For Fable 1 and TLC:
Fable 2: I don't know...but I assume that they will...since that's what they did for the first one. :)

@AS: Yeah, boasting is pretty funny...nothing like fighting naked (very nearly anyways) to get some extra gold! :D

@Omega: Yes I am enjoying it very much!

Ironic that the mall visit was intended to try and find Throne of Bhaal.

You can't find that expansion pack on the shelves anymore...

Good old good! :D

I have a semi-visible halo now. :proud:

And a lot of battle-scars (fighting naked ain't easy on the body ;)).
I'm 44 in the game... ;|

The age thing annoyed me. I think I ended up around 60 when I beat the game.

It doesn't affect you though right? Besides appearance I mean.

It's not like in Darkstone, where your stats slowly decay after about 40-50...

But at least in that game you can find potions that make you one year younger...so it balances out in the end. :)

Force Push + Time Stop FTW!!!

I love that combo...it's so effective it almost feels like cheating! :D

I never remember that happening in Darkstone. Haven't played it in years though.

My favorite spells were always Lightning, Shield, and Summoning. Made the game a bit too easy though. That's if I'm good.

If I play as evil, Berserk and Charge all the way.

What happens if I try to use Berserk?

Or an evil character tries to use Heal Life?

Lightning? Really? Hmm...might have to level it up then...still at level 1. :D

You can use them, but I don't think they are as powerful and they start to switch your alignment. What I liked about Berserk is that it made your character huge.

Huge! Cool! :D

Hmm...the game is so cool! I got past the Arena, cleared the Naked Boast...to get 1400 extra gold. I got over 30000 gold in that quest...I'm rich!

Armor is kind of pointless in that game...perhaps I say that because I'm still using the Apprentice Outfit. Fighting naked is almost the same thing (and I can show off my ridiculous amount of battle scars) :D

Yeah, armor feels a bit useless. At least it looks cool. I was always disappointed there weren't any shields.

True.

But the simple guard with your melee weapon does the job...strangely enough.

You ever do any of those "Don't Get Hit" Boasts? :)
Seems impossible; some attacks are unblockable.
