phpBB 3

Unread postby Sikon » 01 Jun 2007, 06:28

Is CH planning to upgrade to phpBB 3 anytime soon? 3.0 RC1 is out, and it will be compatible with later versions, so you can already start porting themes.

Yes, it could very well happen, but not right away.

We will definitely upgrade to phpBB3 in the future, but not right away.

To answer arturchix's question here's a page that lists some of the new features of phpBB3 http://area51.phpbb.com/docs/features.html . One of the biggest changes from my point of view is that the board is now completely object oriented which makes working with and modifying the API much easier.

Thanks, I have been looking for such a list!

A lot of interesting new features there. It will certainly make our work easier.

vBulletin is still the best software for message boards, but phpBB ain't no weakling either.

Yeah, but phpBB is freeware while vBulletin and IPB isn't.

Free software, actually. While IPB and vBulletin are proprietary. That's the most important argument to me, not price.

# Add other members as friends or foes
# Posts by foes are hidden

I know it's not me!

the ignore thing would be fine for some people who like to remove the dross from their day, but others (like me) like to use the board a little more loosely, and so I doubt I would ever use that particular function

Well if a person wanted to ignore the rift-raft, you, me, Titan, and Fate probably wouldn't show up much anymore.

Oh, I'd still be here, but if you ignored the four of us, there would not be much happening on the forums :D
