Tribes of the East: interview & new screens

Unread postby MistWeaver » 31 May 2007, 00:39

Russian gaming portal "Battle People" interviewed Nival about upcoming Heroes of Might and Magic 5 addon - Tribes of the East.

Here is several new facts from it:

- There will be new global map buildings. Some of them are:

Spell Shop (to learn 4-5 lvl spells)

Sunken Temple (sea object: fight for gold/spells/artefacts)

- Example of combined artifacts :

Armor of Dwarven Kings (4 artifacts):

Bonus for 2 items: +40% magic proof for all creatures

Bonus for 2 items for Rune Mage: 10% Spell Power increase

Bonus for 4 items: Before battle your troops get Expert Stoneskin & Expert Deflect Arrows for 10 turns.

- New terrain (for orcs). Also its said that Ubi didnt want to create another terrain, but Nival insisted.

- Alt.upgrade and original upgrade will be available at the same time, for every creature individually. Also, player can re-train one to another.

- New campaigns:

1) Necromant Arantir campaign

2) Orc chief Gorthai (roughly spelling) campaign

3) Mage Zehir campaign

Also there will be prologue Orc campaign, to get familiar with this faction.

- There are no plans for sea creatures or any new neutrals.

- We can expect new multiplayer mode.

- There will be no "direct IP" multiplayer game support.

- There will be WAIT button. But when - is going to be surprise.

Well, few more neutrals wouldn't hurt.

Some comments:

-The combined artifact is nice, if not a bit too powerful (40% magic defence? sucks to be anything but a Warlock then)

-Why again is Academy the last campaign? Why not give the Necros the final say this time?

The rest seems cool. I am especially happy with the alt. upgrades. :) It will make the game a LOT more strategic.

Here I wanted to say that switching from one upgrade to another (and backwards) is not very realistic, but then recalled girls to boys upgrade, so .. whatever.

Random speculation: Gorthai will bite it, probably against Zehir, and Aratok (?? the DM Orc Chieftain) will take over.

Too bad there won't be any new neutrals. I remember Amrageddon's Blade had this unique fun feeling because of lots of neutrals. I liked it.

@mistwalker: YAS because a fantasy game about ors, and dragons, and magicks and stuff should be as realistic as possible. Hay, I think that Necro's castle breaks some architectal laws.

Thanks Mistweaver, awesome info.

I've really wanted to know how the alternate upgrades will work and now I do!

Seems pretty flexible.

First of all, total realism isnt good for gameplay. So I think game at least shouldn't be rediculous. And upgrading Scout(girl) to Assassin(boy) - is rediculous.

World of dragons and magic can be realistic nevetheless

>I think that Necro's castle breaks some architectal laws.

There are no architectural laws :)

hmm well you have to agree though that without the ability to switch between upgrades it might be very frustrating when you capture a town with different upgrades or something. actually, that was the one thing that worried me about alternate upgrades and i am very relieved to see that they took care of it.

The scout isn't female, is it? Besides, Dungeon females wear their hair long. The only female to male transition is the Raja Rani IIRC.

Doesn't look female at all.

On those new screenshots i see both male and female orc hero models roaming the land... hope its not just for campaign, and that we will get 2 models per faction...

"...Ubi didn't want to create another terrain, but Nival insisted"

This sort of attitude can only be good for the series, i guess nivals getting sick of the limitations put on development by ubi.

Chances of collecting them on normal scenario are not that big... They'll be usefull in campaigns though...
And Academy is last because it will feature all good Heroes once again fighting against Necromancers...

As I understand, there will be no new town buildings.

Thats concept art. Look at screenshots:

However that may be, Raja Rani still proves the point.
