Preview of the Sylvan Upgrades

Unread postby Angelspit » 15 May 2007, 17:52

The official Might and Magic site includes screenshots of the Tribes of the East expansion Sylvan alternative upgrades, along with some statistics and special abilities. The new upgrades are the following: Dryad, Bladesinger, Sharpshooter, High Druid, White Unicorn and Rainbow Dragon. For an image of the Anger Treant, you need to switch to the French version of the site. All screenshots can be enlarged.

It's been a long while since we last saw anything interesting on the official site. Let's hope we'll get to see the upgrades of the other towns during the next weeks. What do you think so far?

The creatures look good, but without Ability descriptions, you can't really see what's different about them. Treant Union? How do I join? And, finally, another gay dragon.

The "Rainbow Dragon" pic on the official site goes to the Treant when clicked. Not that Ubi is likely to come here and find out, but...

Also, allow me to be the second to say that "Rainbow Dragon" is an absolutely ridiculous name.

Since we've got green, red and black dragons, the rainbow dragon should be most powerful! :p

Rainbow breath... Hurray!

Just as I thought. They are the same exact units, only with a slightly different look and stats.

Silly me for thinking Nival would actually put some work into this.

Actually, yes. That would be called putting some actual thought into the process. Instead, all this is is Nival's way of saying "we didn't want to do this in the first place, but Ubi forced us to so we'll do the bare minimum."

That Rainbow Dragon sure is a bargain, though. According to the chart of the Might and Magic site, it only costs 3.400 gold, which is even less than a Green Dragon (3.500 gold) and much cheaper than an Emerald Dragon (4.700 gold). Conclusion: either this info is wrong, or all prices have been tweaked.

Or choice C: Nival still doesn't get balance.

Rainbow dragon surely could have been "Prismatic dragon" unless Wizards of the Coast has that copyrighted.

Then the breath attack would be prismatic breath instead of rainbow breath. Anyways, the name needs to be changed to something else.

Maybe we need to brainstorm some names and send them to Nival.

I wonder what a "rainbow breath" looks like. Colours spraying out the dragon's mouth, painting enemy units in fancy red, green and blue?

No, wait, this is HoMM. That means everyone who gets hit with a rainbow gains extra luck for the combat.

Even I don't like it and I'm a big Dragon fan. This is so totally lame! Image Looks kinda like the Emerald Dragon with a new paint job. ;| You'd think those blobs at Nival could come up with something … anything original.

How about a "yay, return of the Sharpshooters!" That was at least one thing I'm happy about here. I'm generally pleased overall, see some units I'd use and some I wouldn't and they do look cooler. If that is the true price for Rainbow Dragons then maybe Darkstroem is right and enemies it strikes get luck bonuses (the punishment for stinginess) but I wouldn't be suprised if they meant to put 4400 gold.

Why are they all blue?

Why is the "rainbow" dragon not rainbow, and just blue?

Why do they all have the same skills, plus one?

Oh, and by the way, are "we" going to mod the treant so it looks like the beta one, or leave it? Hmm..

Most of them look alright (as long as you ignore the blue theme), but there's something about the Anger Treant's beard that make me laugh.
