New Disciples III Trailer

Unread postby Angelspit » 10 May 2007, 02:10

<img src"https://www.celestialheavens.com/images ... creen2.jpg" align=right vspace=10 hspace=10>There is a new 124 MB trailer for Disciples III: Renaissance at <a href="/http://www.worthplaying.com/article.php ... playing</a>. With Lords who are active on the battlefield and units that can travel without a leader, a Heroes fan can wonder if Heroes IV has been a source of inspiration.

<i>"The visual design follows the original ominous and gloomy style of the Disciples world, but now the entire game environment and every individual unit is in full 3D. The combat system will be significantly improved by adding new elements. Disciples III allows a Lord to use spells on the battlefield. Casting utilizes mana, magic energy that is acquired from controlled sources, plus spell cards that can be bought or found. Travel on a global map will be implemented as in Disciples II - via a point & click system. Now, you can also split groups at any time, and units will be able to travel without an accompanying Leader."</i>

Let's hope that this game will really mark the renaissance of the series.

To archcorenth:

No, lords were guys who were sitting in teh capital and controled that side. In other words, that was teh player who didn't fight on the battlefield.

Watched trailer and I did not like it. Shows only graphics, almost nothing from gameplay. No single battle, only some hits. Kings bounty: legends trailers are better.

Maybe there will be AoW3 after 5 years, none expected sequel to Kings bounty to.

Looks beautiful but I'm more waiting for the DS version of Disciples II (which I believed to have been cancelled but is apparently still aiming for a Q2 2007 release :))

Well it is only half way done.

And they just added another leader on the BF, that's not H4 inspired... i just guess they wanted you to have a hero to identify with... frankly i prefer the old way.

Oh, and in case that link doesn't work 4 anyone else (didn't 4 me): http://www.disciples3.ru/gallery/gallery_eng.htm

ive played Disci2 and while i really liked the general theme and art, the combat system was just dumb (while i think homm combat system to be the best tbs one ever). the upgrades stuff seemed amusing at first but later found that its not my taste.

It was simpler, but definitely not dumb. And it's exactly what they're improving (i just hope they don't turn it into a Heroes clone with unit XP).

I loved both h3 and disciples II. They are just... different. But everyone has to admit that the disciples guys were always waaayyy ahead heroes. Graphics, characters, creature animations, spell!! animations were awsome in disciples II. Omg! I forgot abot sound effects and music! It had the nice terain conquering stuff. I just hope they will remain as distinct as they were before, so I can enjoy playing both.

I think, you all get the timelines and therefore the comparisons wrong.

End of 98, beginning of 99 we had the release of:
a) Heroes 3
b) Disciples I - Sacred Lands
c) Age of Wonders

All 3 games very distinct with Heroes 3 clearly being the best although you could play the others as well. AoW was artistically probably the least interesting while Disciples was quite simple, but very different.

Then 2002 there was
a) Heroes 4
b) Disciples II - Dark Prophecy
c) AoW 2

So you have to compare them with Heroes FOUR. The only thing that is clear here for me is that Heroes 4 is easily the worst of the 3, for me not only artistically, but in gameplay as well. AoW Shadow Magic was leagues ahead of Heroes 4 with its two expansions, and Disciples 2 gold is leagues ahead as well.

However, Disciples III will get the same problem that H 4 had: it will not only be measured against Heroes 5, it will be measured against Disciples 2 as well (and maybe even against King's Bounty, who knows).

I didn't say art for nothing... and H4 had way more problems then comparison to it's predecessor.

I remember that when I got demo of Disciples 2, I desperately wanted to try full version:) Later enyoed game very much. Hopefully with Disciples 3 will be similar, inspite I did not like trailer.

I hope someday to see Age of Wonders 3, like some fans are hoping for Buldurs gate 3.

I wish they would stop making Disciples more like Heroes. Units without leaders might be a good idea for this game, but I'm unsure. I don't like the idea of spells in battle(don't know if that was confirmed, but I heard a rumor), and I don't like units moving in the battles. Disciples II was fantastic the way it was, no need to change it.

@vhilhu:

The combat system was NOT dumb. Like TT said, it was much simpler in size and design, but the types of attacks and special effects made the battles limitless in replayability. Not to mention Disciples has some of the coolest monsters and attacks I've ever seen.
